Students will find directions on how to make a model by themselves for everything from a simple machine to the metamorphosis of an insect. There are 25 suggested models covering the topics of astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. Each of the chapters contains a scientific description of the topic with words in bold that can be found in the glossary. There is a purpose, a list of materials, a procedure, a statement of results, an explanation of how the model works, as well as advice on how to display the model and books to learn more about it. Most materials can be found in the students' own homes, while others can be purchased inexpensively. The procedures are easy to follow—containing 15-20 steps on average—and are complemented with drawings for further clarification. VanCleave's model ideas are creative and simple to follow.
