Theme is an old one, used by a myriad of writers but none executed as well as this one. This is an old book, more than 20 years old, but it is so good that I've re-read it at least ten times. Theme: A bunch of mercs in the 20th century are dumped into a civilisation at least 10 centuries back. Good guy beats the bad guys and wins the girl. Many sub-plots and an over-plot. What's good about it? Characters: Very real and 3 dimensional. It is easy to like them and follow along with them on their 'adventure' again and again. Military sequences: Technically accurate (unlike some writers who are woefully uninformed) and thrilling. Story: Very entertaining. If you don't have this book alread you need to buy it immediately.

Good start to a series .

One of my keepers - so I'm replacing it with this ebook! One of those few books where you see deeper with each reading. BTW, I just found Clan and Crown, and Storms of Victory, hidden inside the multi-volume Tran.

1st book in a triology, - Where are the rest, "Clan & Crown" and "Storms of Victory". I'm disappointed they are not available in an e-book

This book and the second one (Clan and Crown) rank right up there with the Falkenburg series. Fantastic concept underpinned with fine science. Classic stuff.
