Library Journal
Kumihimo braiding is a traditional craft worked with threads on bobbins strung over a marudai, a donut-shaped disk on four legs. Threads are laid in sequence to form the braid pattern. Filled with photos and diagrams showing the sequences for each project, this book was previously published in England as Beginner's Guide to Braiding.

    Great Guide for Making Kumihimo

This book is a valuable resource for making Kumihimo braids. Several types are illustrated with variations on each. The only criticism I have is the book doesn't show the portable braiding disks you can buy at many bead shops or online. These disks make the art more accessible. The pictures are somewhat intimidating because of the size of the braiding tool. If you are at all familiar with Kumihimo, this is a great "advanced beginner" book.

This a great book, is a REPRINT of Beginning Guide to Braiding-The Craft of Kumihimo.

In all the descriptions, not once did I see this little fact. It wasn't until I bought Japanese Braiding did I realize this (it does clearly say this on the publisher's website [and, on the inside cover of the 'new' book], but I did not go there until after I received my book). I was looking forward to more of Carey's wonderful patterns, so I was very disappointed.

Pluses---smaller and spiral bound, so it is easier to use.

EDIT: I see that it now shows that it is a reprint. BUT, it is a hard cover, not a paperback.
