Moriyamasan introduces us to Japanese cooking in an approachable way! My husband is from Japan, and he does most of the cooking in the house (his mom was a great home cook) because all the cookbooks I have on Japanese cooking were so detailed and intimidating and time consuming. As compared to the way my husband simply seems to throw food together and it comes out great tasting. This book, is a great introduction to understanding the how and why of Japanese home cooking. One of my favorite quotes, is the part where the teachers of the girls school tell the mothers that their aim is to teach the young girls to become generous and it starts with a mother packing lunch with love. That is the heart of the equation. Doing things with love. Another aspect of the book that I find inspiring, informing is the statistics. I find it humorous that the Japanese out live everyone, yet they also out smoke every "industrialized' country too! And their health care per person is about 1/2 of what is spent in the United States. Thanks, Moriyamasan, for a great introduction to the woman of Japan!

I like this book because it reminds us to use common sense. We all need a gentle reminder to eat smarter. Sometimes, if we make different choices in our diet, we can all benefit and live healthier.

I say Right On! Americans could wise up and start eating healthier. Not only does the food taste great, who doesn't mind losing a few pounds in the meantime. The lesson learned here is to make changes and get out of our processed food rut.

Naomie, I believe that the concept of for your book is simply genious. People have been looking for a way to eat what they want, and still look good. Looking at magazines, and television shows of today, the media leads us to believe that thin is in. The media shows us women that are very beautiful and young looking, as well as very thin. Because of what we see on television, men tend to now want to be with a woman who has that model look going for them. When I say model look, I am referring to slinder women, who have very beautiful young faces. Your book offers women the chance to eat until they are full, and still pull of the model look that has been embedded in our brains. I believe that your book will prove to be very insightfull, as well as very successful. It is a shame that a book like this was not written sooner.

Naomi, I really think you have done something wonderful with your book. I picked up the book over the Christmas holiday on my way to California from NYC. I hated the title, and was embarrassed to have it on the plane with me, but wow! You really changed my life. I have a big fat book on Japanese cooking, but I never really understood this incredible cuisine until I read your book, tried the recipies, and found myself thinner, with more energy, and overall a much better sense of what was missing in my diet plan. I love to cook, and the use of vegetables and fish as a standard in my diet has always been a mainstay of my personal philosophy. I have been looking (particularly) for better breakfast foods, ways to eat more mushrooms, and that clear soup (yum!)-- you really showed the way. I cannot recommend this book enough. I hope there will be a sequal with more recipes.... Thank you, Naomi!!!!
