Overview

Meet Jared-a cowboy with bit-in the latest paranormal romance from the national bestselling author.

Jared Johnson has always been a force to be reckoned with, first as an outlaw and now as a vampire. Caught in a war between immortals, he doesn't have time to waste, but when a female vampire is attacked, he can't just walk away. He expects a quick goodbye, but what he gets is a vulnerable woman who intrigues and seduces while giving away nothing of the secrets holding her hostage.

Raisa may not have extreme physical strength, but she's been able to survive as a vampire longer than most by keeping to herself. But that's about to change. Forced to accept Jared's protection, Raisa finds it increasingly hard to resist his forbidden allure while keeping the secret that could destroy them both.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Sparks fly and opposites attract when vampires meet in McCarty's second novel of four undead brothers caught up in a war among immortals. When Jared Johnson rescues Raisa, a rare female vampire, from a marauding pack of Sanctuary vamps, he treats her more as a treasure to protect than as a woman to woo. Over time, her irritation and frustration with the arrogant alpha male rancher deepens inexplicably into attraction and mutual desire, but Raisa's secrets could tear their relationship apart and bring down disaster on Jared and his family if the lovers aren't careful. The character-driven story lacks any real sense of place, and the well-written erotic interludes come at the expense of plot resolution, character depth, and suspension of disbelief. (Apr.)

    What can you say.....

Ms McCarty has done it again. I have read many of her books in the past year and continue to read them again and again. I wasn't sure at first as I am not much of a reader of vampire and were's, but the new Shadow Wranglers Series has definately got me hooked and will be another great series for Ms McCarty. Jared and Raisa have you wanting to keep turning the pages and see what is coming next, so much strength and power in the Johnson's that you can't wait to see what will happen next. Can't wait to find out where the next book leads, hopefully we will hear more about Jace and Miri and more about Jared and Raisa and Caleb and Allie and lets not forget about our technology brother.

Highly Recommended - a must read!!!

As a HUGE fan of Sarah McCarty, I love this series! She has truly combined paranormal and romance with a secret society that kept me turning the pages late into the night. I couldn't put the book down . . . I can't wait for the next book, which I hope is Jace's story. This book has sexy heroes, strong women, and villains you love to hate.

rural romantic fantasy fans will fully relish Jared's tale

Jared Johnson smells a weak vampire female trapped by two Sanctuary male vampires on Renegade land. He thinks of the vampire civil war six months old as Sanctuary tries to find female breeders. Jared ignores the woman and kills both males. She is upset with him for not showing them mercy. As Jared and Raisa Slovenski argue, they flee enemy vampires. He finds her blood that she needs, but she says no as the human couple are a good pair ; he wonders how she survived alone.

They reach the D'Nally werewolf ranch where the weres are attracted to Raisa. The alpha Ian asks why she is so weak and offers her blood; she says it is wrong and rejects his offer. She faints and is dying from a lack of blood. Jared offers his blood and she says this is right and takes some. For the first in her three centuries as a vampire she does not have an allergic reaction to blood. Jared tells her she is his "Sunbeam". She says she liked being turned while he hated it. Her cousin brought her to America to work as a wh*re; but she refused so was beaten to near death before the conversion. He says some b*tch converted his brother who changed him. As they fall in love with the enemy in pursuit, their respective nineteenth century pasts interfere with their current lives.

The lead couple is a super pairing and the support cast is extremely well drawn. The story line is fun to follow as the lead couple fall in love while dodging the enemy and each other with a great twist re their relationship. Although a bit more back story on the Shadow Wranglers vampire schism would help newcomers in understanding, rural romantic fantasy fans will fully relish Jared's tale and seek out his brother, Caleb's entry.

    Great read!

I was not sure how much I would enjoy this book. But I found I liked it as much as the first if not more. The series is turning out to be very enjoyable and look forward to any others Sarah McCarty writes for this series. I would recommend for any who enjoy these types of books.

    Sure not to disappoint!

I did not think i would enjoy a were/vamp series a whole lot but WOW! It is a VERY tasteful enjoyable fun exciting read! Jared and Raisa keep you reading till you get the book taken away from you(whoops lol), with all that is going on there are no dry parts nor is there not too much going on at one time for the reader!
I read this and at the end i wanted more! You will anticipate the next books and be hooked just like the rest of us Sarah McCarty fans after reading this(or any other of her books for that matter)!

    I Also Recommend:

    Oh, the Johnson brothers!!!

I really like this series, ALOT! Sarah's vampires are more of a mental power than just pure, physical strength under sexy cowboy hats. Sometimes I get lost in the engery & mind reading parts...but these men in this series make me wish I lived on the Circle J Ranch! And there's nothing more fun than brotherly banter. Then...add 2 women to that mix, and let the good times roll. Oh, and don't forget to throw in 2 seperate packs hot-blooded pure testosteroned werewolves who are all about women. Yum...

Like the classic love story (with a whole lot of goodies in between) it's man rescues woman...and she rescues him right back.
