Overview

With its most recent release, Java offers programmers unprecedented speed and performance and, for the first time, the tools to build sophisticated interfaces. Inside, the authors provide you with all the in-depth, high-end coverage you need to put JDK 1.2 to work on serious programming projects: constructing custom components, managing layout, working with file I/O, creating multithreaded applications, building sophisticated GUIs with JFC Swing components and the 2D API, saving time and effort with JavaBeans, implementing database connectivity (JDBC), ensuring security using the JVM and JDK policy mechanisms, networking your Java applications, implementing Java IDL and CORBA connectivity, and much more. The companion CD features the compiled and source forms of the book's example code. You'll also find links to popular third-party Java utilities that will help you make the most of JDK 1.2.

    These Writers are Great

Sybex has done it again. They've once again written a book that's not just filled whith nonsen, but actually teaches you what you want to learn. It's a maximum of information at a minimum of words. You could probably pass a Java Developers certificate after you've read this book. Thanks Cybex.

A very helpful resource for any programmer!!!

I bought this book in 6-98, and it has never left my side. I have lugged this book over thousands of miles; Why??? Because it provides detailed, concise answers to many advanced topics on Java. Also, it provides many, practical examples that are easy to follow. In defense of this book, the 12-2-99 review alleged that there are lots of printing errors, but I have only found few trivial ones. Furthermore, the RMI chapter is intelligent, well-organized, and straight-forward (same with the thread chapter). True, it doesn't talk about the security model's effects on RMI, but you are silly to expect a book covering these many topics to be finely detailed. If I needed additional info., which I rarely did, I went straight to the source at javasoft. I can not defend Sybex in regards to its customer service since I have never attempted to contact them. If this was not a good, resourceful book, I would not have wasted valuable luggage space and dragged its weight across many states and countries. It's a must-have for all Java programmers, and is worthy of its hard-bound cover.
