I only gave 3 stars because I bought this book locally on Saturd

I only gave 3 stars because I bought this book locally on Saturday and by Tuesday the binding fell apart. Will be returning it today for exchange. Other than that I find it a useful learning tool which deserves 5 stars. I've developed with php for many years now but shied away from javascript (js) because I always felt it was an "ugly" language. Well, that was my excuse. Though I have used jquery plugins for specific things, I was never interested in learning the nuts and bolts. Even though I only made it to about page 200 before it fell apart, this book has helped me to quickly realized that my reluctance to embrace js was unfounded. They key to comprehending js is understanding the DOM and this book does a great job with graphics and just enough repetition to accomplish this task. At first I thought the graphics and repetitiveness was off-putting, but I must admit it's been effective for me. It's obvious now that HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, AJAX, and js libraries like jQuery are forever changing the web landscape, and keeping abreast of these as well as upcoming technologies is paramount for future employment in this industry. If you snooze you lose, so keep your tools well sharpened!

Wonderful book for a beginner in javascript. I have tried countless times to learn javascript through many different sources. The way this book lays out the core functions and takes you on a step by step journey through how everything works together is wonderful. This is the best javascript source I have found yet! Highly recommended
