Overview

The 25-year-old R&B newcomer has a shot to stand out among the neo-soul crowd because he incorporates classic jazz, Latin grooves, and even rock into the midtempo funk mix on this impressive debut. He got his start in a band dedicated to the music of R&B legends like Bill Withers and Maceo Parker, and those classic roots are crystal clear on tunes like the smooth and catchy romantic opener, "Crazy," and the lush, orchestrally flavored (by the legendary Larry Gold) lament "Song for Your Tears." The similarly heartrending "Can't Have My Heart" shows a penchant for rich harmonies and easy Latin grooves, a vibe that kicks up more dramatically on the flamenco guitar-driven "She Spoke to Me." All of the intensely commercial beats, choruses, and productions will earn Javier much deserved attention, and he will also no doubt attract some legitimate standing as a potential jazz artist with the closer, "October Sky," a silky late-night jazz ballad featuring jazz icons Roy Hargrove and Mulgrew Miller.

I heard Javier a few months ago on WHUR, the Howard University Radio Station. I fell in love with "A song for your tears" which compelled me to buy this album. This song touched my soul; it was an honest, simple and raw acoustic performance. Everyone in the station was blown away by his performance. This is the best album I have purchased this summer; this is also the best R & B album I have purchased this year. It is a consistent guitar drvien album yet magnificently diverse in style, tempo and subject matter. "October Sky" is jazz oriented featuring Roy Hargrove; it is excellent. This album is wonderful from start to finish, there is not one weak track that doesn't belong on the album.

Javier is a very skilled musican. This guy can really jam. He's got that old school sound to him. The guy has a vocie that reminds me a lot of Craig Davids'. What makes Javier and David so special is they don't need all that technolgy stuff to sound good. Their voice is all they need to make it all work. If you like jazz and true R&B then you'll like this album.

This CD is full of great songs, I don't think there's a bad song in the bunch. Javier has a beautiful voice and his passion for his music shines through every note he sings.

I caught Javier on Soul Train! He's so honest in his music. He reminds me of some of the old school and a few of the new school greats! I can hear a little Stevie Wonder,Jon B.......Gotta get that new CD! Great from begginig to end!

I was compelled to buy this CD from "Crazy" but I loved the whole thing. Every track is gorgeous, especially the ballads. This guy has some real talent, which as sad as it is, will probably not be recognized by the industry he's in. This CD is simply beautiful.

This album is so sultry and wonderful. I can listen to it all day long and never get tired. My favorite song is "Crazy" and this song is so upbeat, yet conveys a love message.
