Overview

Biggest of all fish and the best equipped for hunting, sharks live in every ocean. No natural predator except the killer whale threatens them, and they possess an extraordinary physiology...including those unrivaled jaws. They have become the stuff of movies, books, and nightmares, but some of what we commonly believe is fiction, not fact. Through the examination of case histories, including gruesome attacks on man, The Jaws of Death documents the truth. It discusses why sharks are essential to the equilibrium of the marine biotope and what benefit they have provided to science and medicine. In addition to sharks, other "jaws of death" receive attention, including piranhas, crocodiles, and barracudas.

This book is absolutely perfect for people who want to learn the truth about sharks as it sifts through all the factual and fictional information known about these mysterious creatures. Not limited to basic knowledge, this book will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about sharks...and didn't! I've looked a long time for something this factual and complete. If you're like me, here it is! You won't find a shark book more worth your money. It's definitely geared more for adults, though. I wouldn't recommend it for very young readers.

I must say that The Jaws of Death is one of the best books I have ever read on sharks. I may be only 15 years old, but people my age tend to get bored reading, and Maniguet kept my attention throughout the entire book. Not only does it have actual accounts of many, many shark attacks, but it has biological information on sharks' personalities, their bodies, etc. I'm not finished finding information on these amazing creatures, so I hope there is another book out there as good as this one!
