We rented this text from Barnes and Noble for the Spring 2015 se

We rented this text from Barnes and Noble for the Spring 2015 semester. The textbook that arrived was badly damaged. The spine is broken/torn and poorly taped up. The cover is bent up in multiple places. There is water damage to most of the pages, and it smells of perfume or cologne.
There is no way that a book in this condition should have been accepted back from the last renter, and sent out to us. The last time we rented from B&N we received what appeared to be a new book. I don't expect that all the time, but I do expect it to be in reasonably good shape! When I called to request a replacement, I was told that I could return it at my own expense under their "return for any reason" policy - which would still leave us without a textbook to use. We were not requesting to return it because we found a better deal, or because we decided we didn't want the book, or because we dropped the class - we wanted to return it because B&N did not provide the product in the condition that they "sold" it. It should have been replaced promptly, perhaps with an apology, and the book we received should have been disposed of. We have gone from a very satisfied customer to a customer who will not rent from B&N again. And that's a lot of rentals over a college career. -JKPennState
