Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Bruce Eder
This mid-priced release features Basie working in a relaxed, subdued manner, with ensembles ranging from quintet to full band. Some of the numbers are so subdued that they barely hang together, such as "Eventide," which barely has a perceptible beat, but the entire collection stands up very well. The relaxed mood allows the soloists to stand out in a quiet way, including Paul Quinichette's tenor sax solo on "I'll Always Be in Love with You" a small group recording featuring Basie on the organ and alto saxman Marshall Royal on "Only the Lonely."
