    I Also Recommend:

    My favorite Writer's Guide!

Jeff Herman's is by far my favorite guide to literary agents. It was with this guide that I finally started getting replies to my queries and good feedback on my proposal. I really enjoy reading about the various agents, their personal reading habits, their interests, opinions and tips for writers. It makes them more human and accessible. Because of this added material, it is very clear which agents would be interested in representing my work and which would not be a good fit for me. With other guides I felt like I was poking a stick into the dark. This guide is well worth the price, even if you only use it for the advice, tips and proposal example.

Jeff Herman's Guide to Book Publishers, Editors, & Literary Agents 2009

All information books on publishers, editors and agents are helpful to writers. But Jeff Herman's Guide takes further steps: interviews with agents, what books the agency has represented, a sample contract, lists of who's what at publishing houses, imprints, how to write a successful query letter, a glossary of publishing terms, and on and on. With over 1,000 pages packed with information, this is the most thorough guide on getting published. Well worth the money.
