This version of the musical, Jekyll and Hyde, makes the Broadway Cast Recording sound tame in comparison. With the clear vocals of Anthony Warlow, Jekyll sounds less whiney, and Hyde sounds more menacing. Linda Eder, the most featured actress in the musical, continues to astound with some interesting and raunchy songs. I have one complaint, and that is about Carolee Carmelo. She doesn't fit my veiw of Lisa/Emma. Christiane Noll does a better job at that. The chorus numbers were very different from the Broadway versions. But mostly, this soundtrack is much better suited to give promising actors a look into character development for this, and any related, musicals. Give me chills every time I listen to it.

Long Live Jekyll and Hyde!!!

anthony warlow is fantastic! he can even sing the A and make it sound like anybody can sing it. he portrays jekyll and hyde so well and can sound so the same yet so different at the same time, if that's possible. linda eder has the most powerful voice of anyone i've ever heard. she is fabulous. carolee carmello needs singing lessons and some pronounciation help. everyone else is fabulous. it's way better than the broadway version, seeing as Robert Cuccioli can barely sing a G. Christiane Noll is better as emma, though.

I have never seen this production and found out about it through my vocal teacher. I am obsessed with Phantom of the Opera and this is up there with it. And not many are with there with POTO in my book. When I bought this cd, I bought the highlights of Jekyll and Hyde: The Original Broadway Cast in 1997 I believe. Well, I can see why it is no longer on Broadway because the music is weak and quite aweful. But this version...is...well...no words can describe it. IT IS THAT GOOD! Anthony Warlow is amazing...so is Linda Eder...and Carolee Carmello is as well. Hell everyone is amazing, even the ppl who have the least parts. I never write reviews, but this one I just had to to tell everyone how great it is!!

If you are going to buy a version of this play, BUY THIS ONE, not the Broadway version. The music is stirring and powerful, and the talent on this soundtrack is incredible. Easily one of the best scores to grace the stage since Phantom. I've listened to it dozens of times already, and am still not tired of it!

This is an absolutely superb effort. I've listened to a few songs from the much disappointing broadway version and I must say the actor who portrays JEKYLL/HYDE in it licks balls compared to Anthony Warlow. Warlow fluently changes his voice from kind and worried as Jekyll to dark and dangerous as Hyde. Also he his highest notes in the show don't even fluctuate, even after holding them for NINETEEN seconds, unlike his overrated and often weak broadway counterparts. Linder Eder is amazing as Lucy, which she manages to portray with sensuality, sexuality and deep sorrow. With this recording you'll need the story sheet included with it to figure-out where most of the songs fit into the storyline. But if you want to understand where the musical numbers stand in proportion to the story then get the broadway album, but be warned: The voices are no-way near as good as this concept recording. If you want two hours of take-your-breath-away music, combined with utterly extraordinary voices led by the best and most amazingly, mindboggingly incredible potrayal of the two leads by any singer in the history of man, then this is the recording for you.

One of my favorite musicals of all time. The songs are great, the singing is strong and powerful, and the story line is wonderful.

I bought this on a whim and I LOVE it. Anthony Warlow is very impressive as Jekyll/Hyde. He makes the two voices sound different in tone, not just by making Hyde sound gravelly. Linda Eder is also wonderful, and had a very powerful voice.

All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
The second version of Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse's Jekyll & Hyde, referred to as "The Complete Work, " is certainly more extensive than its predecessor, a 1990 "highlights" album sung by Colm Wilkinson and Linda Eder. That album was dominated by Wildhorn's pop ballads -- "Once Upon a Dream," "This Is the Moment," "Someone Like You," "No One Knows Who I Am," "A New Life" -- and Eder's Streisand-like belting. There is no lack of that sort of thing here: in fact, with "Take Me as I Am," "Sympathy, Tenderness," "Letting Go," and "In His Eyes," there's even more of it. But, extending over two discs and two hours, there is also the Robert Louis Stevenson tale, ...
