Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Paxton's original lullaby of mystic rhymes and refrains takes Jennifer out of her bed in her dreams on a magical adventure. With her rabbit and some animals from the zoo, she goes through a forest to "the ocean with the cookie-crumb sands." They all sail on the "starlit sea," counting stars, until they're happily back in bed again. Fine for a song, where music can add significantly to the esthetic and emotional content, the words here are illuminated by Miles's dreamy double page scenes. Jenny is an adventurous girl, her hair always flying. The visualization is naturalistic but the characters, human and animal, are loaded with charm, while the settings are misty with the romance of make-believe. 2001, HarperCollins, $15.95 and $15.89. Ages 3 to 6. Reviewer: Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz
