Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Vicki Foote
Jeremy Lin's basketball success and his journey to achieve it are described in this unauthorized biography. Lin became famous in the sports world when he played for the New York Knicks and outscored Kobe Bryant in a game against the L.A. Lakers in 2012. The book discusses his family, particularly his parents' move from Taiwan to California before Jeremy and his brothers were born. Several chapters tell about his childhood experiences learning basketball and eventually playing in college. Lin was exposed to some racism over the years, but learned to not let it affect him. There are lots of details about high-profile games, particularly a famous game against the Lakers. Lin has become famous as a role model for Asian Americans as well as for Asian youth. Throughout the book, Buckley incorporates quotations from Jeremy and those associated with him. Coaches and trainers explain how Jeremy's talents help him succeed. Buckley also includes facts titled "Hoops Talk," which add basic information such as the definitions of a point guard, shooting guard, and pick-and-roll. Another "Hoops Talk" discusses Lin's role as a basketball pioneer. There are several photographs of Jeremy in action from the cover through the book. An uplifting story of praise for Jeremy's accomplishments, this book should be of interest to young basketball lovers and those who are looking for a lively biography. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
