The Cross-Currents features inside this biography explore connections between people, places, events, and ideas. They provide additional context for understanding the subject's life and times.

Jermaine Dupri was ready to work when most kids still want to play. By the time he was 12 years old, he was already touring the country as a dancer. By 14, he found his real passion. Dupri wanted to discover music groups, help them shape their albums, then produce and sell their records. He discovered his first group when he was barely in his teens. He wrote the songs, mixed the music, created a demo tape for the group, and sold its album to a major record label. After discovering his next big act at a mall in Atlanta, Georgia, he produced his first album to sell more than 1 million copies. From then on, Jermaine Dupri was on his way.

Today, Dupri is one of the most widely respected music producers, songwriters, and rappers in the industry.
