It is a trip of firsts, and the 10-year-old is excited about the adventures that await her. The characters are well drawn and likable, and the print is fairly large. The story line is well thought out and the factual information about dig sites and Maya culture are seamlessly integrated into the text. An afterword, complete with full-color photos, introduces 10-year-old Elyse, a real girl who has accompanied her archaeologist parents on several two-month digs in Belize.     Best Girl of the Year

    I loooove Jess! We have much in common. Sadly, I don't have her doll. Anyway, this book was brilliant. Kudos to Mary Casanova and Robert Papp. I wish there was a second book. I'd recommend this book to all girls.

    So Swishy!

    This is the best American girl book ever! When this book came out I just so happened to be learning about the mayan ruins in school. I loved it so much I bought the doll. Jess and me are inseperatble.

    This book is very good if you like american girl dolls

    This book is my favorite book because there really wasn't any pictures but when they come up they were real pictures. It tells about her. I wonder if her brother and sister were always mean to Jess. This book is good if you love american girl dolls if you like going to the forest then read this book. P.S. One day I want to be an american girl doll.

    Adventure Girl!

    Girls of all ages will love this adventure about Jess who travels, with her parents, to Belize on an archeological dig. Stories like this didn't exist when I was a kid. A hidden cave, a mischievous spider monkey, a Mayan family and their jungle abode, a baby parrot, Jess's new friendship with Sarita, all make JESS an entertaining read. The book's illustrations are truly beautiful, and the final photo story is about an authentic girl who digs for Mayan treasures. JESS is believable, dramatic, and realistic with its evocative setting and people. Enjoy!
