What does a little bear wear while he romps through a bright and sunny day? In the morning, his pants that dance, and the sun on his legs that run. At lunchtime, celery crunch and sprouts in a bunch, and juice from a pear and rice in his hair. And at night, his pjs with feet and face on the seat, and sleep in his eyes and stars in the skies, as he dreams of the fun

Overview

What does a little bear wear while he romps through a bright and sunny day? In the morning, his pants that dance, and the sun on his legs that run. At lunchtime, celery crunch and sprouts in a bunch, and juice from a pear and rice in his hair. And at night, his pjs with feet and face on the seat, and sleep in his eyes and stars in the skies, as he dreams of the fun he'll have tomorrow.
In lilting verse and exuberant paintings, the first of Nancy White Carlstrom's and Bruce Degen's celebrated Jesse Bear books creates a special day not only for Jesse Bear, but for young children everywhere.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"The rhymes...are clean and catchy and beg to be recited...The illustrations...combine freshness of color with freshness of attitude, and the result is a cheery, uncluttered exuberance."

This lilting poem follows Jesse Bear and the things that he wears throughout the day. In the morning, he dons "my shirt of red pulled over my head," while at noon his apparel is "carrots and peas / And a little more please." Night time brings "sleep in my eyes / And stars in the skies / Moon on my bed / And dreams in my head." Degen's cheerful illustrations help capture the playful interaction between toddlers and parent.
Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Jesse Bear playfully "wears" not only his shirt and pants, but also the sun on his legs, sand on his arm, bathwater and bubbles, sleep in his eyes, etc. PW described this work as "ingenuous yet never coy.... An appealing book to share with a young child." Ages 2-5. (Mar.)
Children's Literature - Susie Wilde
Many new board books are re-releases of beloved early books, now made more durable for babies who begin by loving their rhythm and rhyme in infancy and continue to love them as toddlers. They hold up better in board book format. A classic making a new board book appearance is Nancy Carlstrom's bouncy Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?

My two boys loved this book as small children. I read it to them so many times we had to replace it. I bought it as a baby shower gift and my 21 year old son requested I get one to read to the children he will have one day.

I remember my mom reading this book to me when I was little. 19 years later I still have the teddy bear that I named Jesse Bear because I loved this book so much. When I have children, this is the first book that I'm buying.

I simply read the title to my two youngest kids, and they were hooked already! They have asked for it over and over in the two weeks since we bought it. I've already decided it will be one of the books I will give as a baby gift.

What first interested me in the Jesse Bear books was the name..my name is jessica and...my parents called me Bear. But, when i was younger and couldnt read i would sit on the floor and try and follow along with the cassette tapes. When i got old enough to read..i would sit on the floor and read the books all day. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age!! =)

I originally looked at this book because my son is named Jesse. Upon reading the book, I found it to be sweet and enjoyable for any child. Jesse is only 6 months old, but loves to have this book read to him because he recognizes his name in the story. As an elementary school teacher, I can honestly say that this is quality children's literature that kids of all ages (and names) will enjoy.

I know, I know, but this book is also one of my favorites... Jesse Bear is one of the tightest characters ever!
