Overview

"An excellent read."
—Ace Greenberg, Chairman, Bear Stearns

Richard Smitten's Jesse Livermore is the first full biography of the legendary trader profiled in the bestselling Reminiscences of a Stock Operator (Wiley: 0-471-05970-6). Although he died more than half a century ago, Livermore is considered by today's top traders as the greatest trader who ever lived. An enigmatic loner, misanthrope, and notorious miser, Livermore revolutionized the profession with his innovative timing techniques, money management strategies, and high-momentum approach to trading stocks. Smitten provides a vivid portrait of Livermore and the times in which he lived and operated. He deftly combines eyewitness accounts of those who knew Livermore with fascinating stories of sensational love affairs, shootings, and suicides, and a detailed exploration of the trading strategies that made Livermore several fortunes in his lifetime.

Richard Smitten (Key West, FL) is the author of several books, including The Godmother, the critically acclaimed story of a famous woman criminal.

This book struck a chord in my heart, although, the author only had a pretty good understanding of Jesse Livermore, he didn’t know Livermore personally so it was more of a secondary source book. The actual title of the book is Jesse Livermore: World’s Greatest Stock Trader. It was proscribed by Richard Smitten and it is a biography of the great Jesse Livermore. The author’s purpose in writing this book was to define the life of a man who was a visionary in his own way. A brilliant man, Jesse Livermore revolutionized the stock market. The point of view of this exquisite work of literature is like an admirer who wanted to be just like Mr. Livermore. The author put the fun in dysfunctional. By the way, I love your cat Ms. Fairhead. This extraordinary book contains the embodiment of the emotional life of the awesome man, Jesse Livermore. It reveals details about his life from when he was born to when he killed himself. He was personally blamed for the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and received numerous death threats for it. He accumulated a massive wealth but lost almost all of it towards the end of his beautiful life. Jesse Livermore really was a great guy don’t you think? I recommend this book to any American who enjoys any variation of literature. I could go as far as to say this book has changed my life. This book caught my interest from the start and I couldn’t put it down. Needless to say, I have rated this book 5/5 stars!
