JESUS & BUDDHA
THE PARALLEL SAYINGS

This remarkable collection reveals how Jesus and Buddha—whether talking about love, wisdom, or materialism—were guiding along the same path. Jesus & Buddha also delves into the mystery surrounding their strikingly similar teachings and presents over one hundred examples from each.

As a Christian, I grew up with Jesus and have lived with him all my life. I have not lived with the Buddha. Similarly my work on this book was from the vantage point of a Jesus scholar. But my experience has led me to the conclusion that their teachings about ‘the way’ are virtually identical and that together they are the two most remarkable religious figures who ever lived.”
—Marcus Borg
You hold in your hand a remarkable and beautiful book. Jesus and Buddha are now meeting in an encounter of the spirit. When we listen deeply to their words we find that in many ways, they speak with one heart. If we could enact even one verse from these teachings, it would have the power to illuminate our hearts, free us from confusion and transform our lives.”
—Jack Kornfield

    great for non-exclusive Christians

I appreciate Marcus Borg as a writer and as a very special human being. His other books represent the best in contemporary 'Jesus Scholarship' but Marcus combines that with a winsome attitude, a readable style, and a profound spirituality that is unique. This book is helpful for those who want to affirm that God is at work in ways and places no human can fully comprehend, and by comparing the sayings of Bhudda and Jesus, those of us who see ourselves as 'nonexclusive' Christians can find a lot of affirmation of that through this book. My only reservation is it tends to 'homogenize' Jesus and Bhudda. Some of the sayings which Marcus sees as parallel are for me more like 'similar.' That is not bad, it is just important, at least to me, to make sure I am 'hearing' each of them in their uniqueness, not just their simlarity.

A definite worthwhile to check out

The into explains that the author is not trying to state that the teachings are the exact same or that Jesus was preaching Buddism. The author is just trying to show that these two different religious leaders, seperated by 500 years and thousands of miles had similar messages. The author is not trying to draw any conclusions, just pointing out the similarities and for the reader to drawn their own conclusions. Yes, a little more insight into the parrallel teaching would have been nice, but that isn't what the author was trying to do.

    A reviewer

This book lacked the good features. It had no plot, no action, no one even died. It doesn't help with religon. Kill Bill helps with religon more. This book is terrible. Don't buy it at all.

    The best religios book ever

Thiss book shows how no matter what religion, no matter if you worship jesus christ, or budda that they teach you about the same things that leads to the great lessons that they both teach us. Even if you are not any religon (like I am) this shows that no matter what religion you are ,or if you aren't any that all of the lessons lead to teach you about god. I think this is a great book for any body who enjoys reading about religion!
