    The Jesus Book Review...

    A while back I got a book to review from Thomas Nelson's bloggers group. I want to have kids someday, and I wanted to see what is out there for kids in terms of books.

    I thought in general this book was good. Well put together, and the design was very nice. I read a number of the reviews for this book and really did not agree with them at all.

    I thought Stephen Elkins did a wonderful job at telling this Bible stories in a way that kids would understand.

    Review of "The Jesus Book" By: Stephen Elkins

    "The Jesus Book" by Stephen Elkins was illustrated very beautifully and was simple to read and understand for a small child. I was delighted to find that the book included a CD with a ton of songs for young children to listen to and sing along with. This is a very comprehensive book for children to learn who Jesus was and what He has to offer us. The pictures are very colorful and the book is very informative. This book would make a great gift for a child or the parent of a small child. This is the type of book a child will keep and cherish forever. My husband was also curious about what the book said and took a look at the book, he offered the opinion that the book should've talked a little more specifically about when Jesus was born to make it a little clearer for young children to understand, other than that the book did an amazing job of presenting the information in a clear and understandable way. I would recommend this book to friends, family and anyone with children.     The Jesus Book - All About Jesus for Kids to Understand

    My review:

    I'm in third grade and I really loved this book. It's the first book I've seen that only talks about Jesus. I learned so much from reading this book and I plan on reading it over and over until I can remember everything about Jesus. My friends also like it, but the CD is not good for older kids. The pictures are very colorful so kids who don't read yet will be able to look at the pictures while their moms read to them. I love it!

    Mom's Review:
    I was recently taking my daughter and her friend for ice cream and in the car my daughters friend asked her when she was going to have first communion. How do I explain to the little girl the difference between being a Catholic and being a Baptist? I decided to go a different route and explain what our churches have in common. This book was very helpful for the girls to explore the beliefs they had in common.

    As soon as we got home my daughter ran to her room to get this book and the girls read it. It was a nice way to bring them together despite the fact they attend different churches.

    If you'd like to teach your child about Jesus, this is one of the best books I've seen on the subject. This 96 page book has the following sections:

    Who Jesus Is
    What Jesus Did
    What Jesus Taught
    When It Happened
    Where It Happened
    Why It Happened
    How It Happened

    The book is written at a 2nd/3rd grade level, but I would not hesitate as a parent to introduce this book to children in Kindergarten all the way up to 4th grade.

    As usual with these kind of books, I was less impressed with the CD, but I do think preschoolers would enjoy listening to it.

    Scripture references are at the top of each story, so if your older child is looking for more in-depth stories, they can read them right from the bible as well as the condensed version presented in this book.

    This hardcover book is very sturdy and smaller than normal so it's perfect for children to hold.

    Book Review

    I am so thankful that my Grandkids enjoy reading books. I recently had my granddaughter visiting for a couple of days and she continually asked me to read with her...it was great! It's so important to read books to kids that are encouraging and positive. That's the main reason why I liked The Jesus Book so much when I got it. I am so grateful to have had the chance to review it, thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers! It is a book I can see myself reading to my Grandchildren for many years to come!

    If you haven't read The Jesus Book yet, you should! It's a terrific who, what, where, when and why book. I like how gives children a look into what Jesus' life in a way that they will understand. It's probably a book geared towards children in Preschool and older, but I know my 1 year old Granddaughter really enjoyed it as well! It was very informative and the pictures were great as well! It kept her attention and was one she enjoys reading over and over again! The 30 song CD was an added bonus and something I look forward to using with my Grandchildren as well!

    Great Storybook!

    Kaelyn just loves books! As she gets older she enjoys reading them more and more. It's been really neat to watch her sit down with books that are familiar to her and listen to her "read" them! Anytime I have the opportunity to get her a book, or to review one...I take it!!

    Recently I had that chance with The Jesus Book, thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers! This is definitely the ultimate who, what, where, when and why book!! It gives children the opportunity to learn more about Jesus' life.. I was very impressed with how informative it was, yet how kid-friendly at the same time! The illustrations are great, and the wording flows perfectly for young children.

    I was not only impressed with the book, but also the 30 song CD that came with it! I would say that the CD would be geared towards younger children, while the book would be better for pre-school aged children and up. Both resources together make this a great addition to anyone's library! I'm very glad we have it now for our children and would recommend it other families as well!

    Awesome book for your young kids

    When this book came to the house my 4 year old open the package and took the book The Jesus Book By Stephen Elkins. He took the book and look at the awesome illustration done by Claudie Gervry. The book open up great opportunity to talk about Christ and all that he has done for us and do it in a way that a 4 year old can understand.
    Stephen take a personal look at Jesus Christ and talk about the Who,What, Where, When and Why of Christ. He talk about each one using the bible to tell the story.
    The Jesus book is very well done and this book is a must have to all parents that are teach their kids about the Savior of the world.
    On part that I love the most about this book is the When it happened part Stephen draws a nice time line from the time creation of the world to when Christ ascends back into heaven. Ever well done and great tool to teach your kids about the gospel truths.
    To top is all off this book comes with a musical CD that has over 3o songs about Jesus and it a great CD to listen to on Sundays when getting ready for church. I recommend this book to all.

    The 5 Ws and 1 h

    Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. Six questions that my daughter needs to learn by heart. They teach us so much when we ask them. And they help us understand what we are reading and learning about.

    The girls and I are reading a new book as part of our nighttime devotions. It is called The Jesus Book. Two years ago, I read "Everything A Child Needs to Know about God" to them. It was great. It explained who the father, son, and Holy Spirit are. It explained what the Bible is and why we go to church. And it was perfect for a four year old. This book is perfect for a 5-6 year old or even a 7 year old. It answers the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How about Jesus. I have agreed with almost all of the descriptions and explanations the author, Stephen Elkins, gives. The only one I disagree with isn't really a disagreement--it's rather a wish--a wish he'd explained it a little more clearly. I wish he had explained repentance in words that would have helped my oldest daughter understand it a little better.

    But, aside from that, this is a great little book. It has a visual of a gameboard to help explain when in the timeline of Jesus' life. In the section that addresses where, there are two simple maps, and then several pages that explain what happened at each of those places. What a blessing it is to have a good book to transition Autumn into to help her understand at an age appropriate level of content!

    And bonus: there is a cd included. The book is a good book in and of itself. The cd does sound a lot like the cds in Stephen Elkins other books, but it is always nice to have another cd to listen to!

    Stephen Elkins is a best-selling author, musician, and Grammy-nominated producer. He is author of the 100 Bible Stories series and Read-n-See DVD Bible. Claudine Gevry illustrator of over sixty books including "The Jesus Book". Her whimsical style is shown throughout this book.

    About the Book

    The Jesus book is one of the best resources and educational guides that I've seen for children on the market! Author Stephen Elkins makes understanding everything we need to know about Jesus very simple by breaking it down in the following seven sections:

    * Who Jesus Is
    * What Jesus Did
    * What Jesus Taught
    * When It Happened
    * Why It Happened
    * How It Happened

    A very useful time line is included in the When it Happened section starting the readers in Genesis and ending in John. Located in the Where it Happened section you'll find colorfully illustrated maps that show were Jesus walked throughout his journey. In the What Jesus Taught section you'll find that Jesus liked to minister to those around him with parables and you'll see how he taught us to pray. In the Why and How it happened section, children will learn why Jesus was sent to save us and how it happened.

    Each mini story of explanation is backed with scripture that you may choose to look up in your own Bible to show children how what they are being taught is also in the Bible. I think it's never to early to teach children to look to the Word of God for answers that they may be seeking.

    A fun thirty song filled cd by the Wonder Kids is also included featuring well loved Bible songs like Stand Up For Jesus, God is so Good, and Do Lord just to name a few of the wonderful tracks.

    My Thoughts

    Stephen Elkins has done a wonderful job with this book. Illustrator Claudine Gevry also does a great job in bringing to life each page with her colorful eye catching illustrations. The music cd is a great addition as many of the songs I grew up listening to as a child!

    I am looking forward to sharing this book with my children, as I know many questions that may be asked or pondered about Jesus will be answered. This book would be great for home, church, and even school use. I give this book 5 stars!

    The Jesus Book by Stephen Elkins is the ultimate Who, What, When, Where, Why book for children ages 4-7. The book explains "Who Jesus Is", "What Jesus did", "What Jesus Taught", When it happened", "Where it happened", "Why it happened" and "How it happened'. The Jesus Book helps teach children about the life of Christ and how to enter a life-long relationship with him. The book includes a 30 song compact disc with songs such as "Jesus Loves Me", "Deep and Wide", "Blessed Assurance" and "Amazing Grace".

    I loved this book. I thought it was beautifully written in clear and easy to understand language. The illustrations were beautiful, colorful and fun. I felt that each story was well thought out, complete and most important accurate and historical. I didn't feel like I was left hanging. Quotes from the bible were simply worded yet maintained their true meaning. I believe children will enjoy having this book read to them and then reading it themselves when they are older. It's a great tool for teaching children about Jesus and his life as well as how to have a long-lasting relationship with him. Included with the book is a 30 song compact disc. Some of the songs included are "Fairest Lord Jesus", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and one of my favorites "At The Cross". I really enjoyed reading this book and listening to the CD. I would highly recommend it to any parent or child interested in learning about Jesus. This is an excellent book. I'm happy to be adding it to my library.

    The Jesus Book

    Just by glancing at the cover of, The Jesus Book, you would assume this is a book for young children. This book is actually more suitable for upper elementary children, due to the vocabulary and reading level of the book. This book could be used with younger children, if the parents wanted to use the book for a short bedtime story as well.

    In The Jesus Book, the author uses short stories and vibrant illustrations to tell the story of Jesus. The book is set up into sections of who, what, when, where, and why. Each section, tells the story of Jesus and his teachings.

    This book was a fun read. It gives children information about Jesus from the bible in a short and simplistic way so that they can understand. This book is thought provoking and a way for parents to share stories about Jesus with their children and be able to answer any questions the children may have about the stories. The book also comes with a children's c.d. that has 30 Christian songs. I recommend this book for teaching your children about Jesus.

    Whoops! Did you miss this one? "The Jesus Book" by Stephen Elkins and its cover art by Claudine Gévry suggest a Bible for preschoolers. Look again! Inside is an insightful teaching guide for 8-10 years of age. Divided into sections answering the "Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How" questions about the life and purpose of Jesus, the author has provided a tool suitable for homeschoolers and small group Bible lessons. The back cover calls this "The EVERYTHING book about God's Son". Perhaps this would be a more suitable title. Adding to its value as a teaching tool are a Map Guide, Scripture Index, Topical Index, and Names and Places Index. A WonderKids CD is included with the book.

    "The Jesus Book: The Ultimate Who, What, When, Where, and Why Book" by Stephen Elkins is a great book. This is great for children who want to know about Jesus but are too young to tackle the Bible. Under 100 pages with large print, bright colors, and artistic pictures, this will not seem as daunting to a child compared to a 1000+ page Bible. Included are facts about Jesus' young life, His miracles, His ministry, why He died on a cross, and more. For the geography, a simply and large map is included. Children interact and learn when prompts on the pages ask them to identify cities where Jesus wen (subsequent pages tell what Jesus did in those exact cities). Illustrated by Claudine Gevry, the photos comes to life in a descriptive yet imaginative manner. Many images of children are used with Jesus, and this will excite young readers. Plus, a music CD with thirty songs [that run for a little over an hour] are fun. Classics are sung by youngsters, and little ones will recognize many songs. While this book is meant for young readers, older ones will still relish its message. Older readers will really learn the meaning of Matthew 18:1-4~ "At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'"
