Jesus Christ Superstar [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 25th Anniversary Reissue]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Cub Koda
Originally conceived as a double-album project by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber back in the days of vinyl albums, the original version was a huge success, leading to stage shows and eventually this, the original motion picture soundtrack version of Webber's original score. The score is conducted here by André Previn with cast vocal support by Ted Neeley, Yvonne Elliman, and Carl Anderson. Fans of Webber's over-the-top glitz will not be disappointed in this version, as the soundtrack was the perfect opportunity to milk the score for all it was visually and musically worth.

    a reviewer

I really like this musical! It seems strange when you first hear of it, but it's great! I think that this might be my favorite cast, if just for Carl Anderson. Of course, Yvonne Elliman is wonderful too, with her lovely, unique voice, and while Ted Neeley is not my favorite Jesus, he is good. My favorite songs were "The Last Supper", "Damned For All Time/Blood Money", and "Pilate's Dream", in order. "The Last Supper" was so simple and sweet, then suddenly so passionate, which I love. I also constantly find myself humming it or singing it under my breath, which leads to some odd questions! For future reference, I have not actually ever wanted to be an apostle, and know that I could not be one even if I wanted to. "Damned For All Time/Blood Money" is just so catchy, and Caiaphas's "can't remember the actor's name" voice is amazingle weird. "Pilate's Dream" is so smoky and haunting it really makes you think. Don't think that this is just for Christians I, personally, am not Christian and think I might actually enjoy it more this way, since I don't feel as weird thinking about Jesus as "just a man". Maybe "Jesus Christ Superstar" is not entirely Biblically acurate (ex: the apostles did not write the gospels. Those were written long after they all died), but it's pretty good in that area, and excellent in all others!

    GREAT, GREAT, GREAT

I thought the music was great! Ted Neeley really stood out and showed everyone he can do better than background vocals like his previous work! Everyone sang their part very well! It was explosive in vocals and content! Something every one will LOVE!!!

    Endless Classic and still excellent......

This modern version is very strong and in your face. Although not entirely accurate to the bible this is a very good up to date version of JC superstar. Good range of singers and acted as good as the songs were exellent.... 9/10 from me...

This is Great.. one flaw though

Hey JCSS fans! This is a great version of Jesus Christ Superstar. I do have one tiny teeny problem with this though. I bought the CD's for about $11 or $12 bucks, same version and everything and this is so very very expensive, if you are looking for it, I would check around before purchasing it on BN! Just trying to help ya out!
