Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This presentation of the life of Jesus uses the latest Biblical scholarship. Differences of interpretation are handled by quoting other authors in sidebars. "The Virgin Birth," "Jesus's Healings," "A Scientist's View," and "The Shroud of Turin," are some of the topics handled honestly and with respect for varying beliefs. A timeline from 10 B.C to 70 A.D. has pictures of various important events going on in the world. The author concludes: "Yet given both the breadth and depth of Christianity's impact as the religion of the Western European culture that has dominated much of the world, it is difficult to imagine that any single person could have made a greater impression on history." The text is illustrated by many Italian 16th century paintings and others. Unfortunately the artists are not listed. There are chapter notes, lists for further reading, a list of works consulted, and an index. This is one of "The Importance of" series. The sophisticated Biblical student, interested in recent scholarship on the life of Jesus, will enjoy this book. 2006, Thomson Gale/Thomson Corporation/Lucent Books, Ages 12 to 18.
