The Jesus Storybook Bible is unlike any other storybook. True, that's to be expected when you combine the mesmerizing illustrations of Jago and the award-winning writing of Sally Lloyd-Jones, a Brit with an uncanny knack for storytelling. Not only is each story as vividly illustrated as it is portrayed, but also each tale is telling one Big Story--the Story of Jesus. Even the Old Testament stories of 'The young hero and the horrible giant' and 'Daniel and the scary sleepover' come full circle to Jesus, the greatest Hero, King, Lover and Rescuer the world has ever known.

''The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name' disproves the adage that you can't judge a book by its cover. Jago's award-winning cover art is a foretaste of the whimsically insightful and richly colored drawings that await you on every one of the book's 351 pages. The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book....Jago the illustrator, and Sally Lloyd-Jones the author, are a good pair. She brings the same creativity and sense of humor to her telling of the Bible's stories....But Lloyd-Jones's writing isn't cutesy. She has a grasp of the profound. How does one explain to a child the agony of Jesus in Gethsemane, and his prayer of surrender to his Father? Lloyd-Jones does it as well as any biblical commentator....The title and subtitle are even better than the book's delightful illustrations and narrative -- because they provide, in one deft stroke, the interpretive key that unlocks the meaning of the whole Bible. 'The Jesus Storybook Bible' says it all: The Scriptures are not merely a collection of stories designed to teach moral lessons. As Jesus explained to the men walking the road to Emmaus on Resurrection Sunday, the whole Bible is about Jesus. In the words of the subtitle, every story whispers his name....Lloyd-Jones manages to show again and again the presence of Christ in all the Old Testament Scriptures, and the presence of the Old Testament Scriptures in the life of Christ.' -- ''The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name' disproves the adage that you can't judge a book by its cover. The Jesus Storybook Bible is, in my opinion, one of the best resources available to help both children and adults see the Jesus-centered story line of the Bible.

Very enjoyable, different from other Bible storybooks

I am reading The Jesus Storybook Bible with my son. We have read many different children's Bibles. This one is different from all of them. First, the illustrations are not the typical children's book cartoon illustrations. Second, these are not just shortened versions of stories from the Bible on a child's level. These are well-thought out stories that I have found to be biblically accurate. But they also show how that event or story points to Jesus. The subtitle of the book is "Every story whispers his name." I love and appreciate this. This is a wonderful book that both children and adults will enjoy. As an adult it is nice to be reminded of God's faithfulness as we read with our children. It is appropriate for school-aged children. This book would be perfect for a bedtime reading book.

Thank you to Zondervan for providing a review copy of this storybook Bible.

    Enlightening

I've read several Children's Bibles to my grandchildren and paged thru many others to find the right one. This one is more than Bible stories retold for the younger set. It has a way telling the stories that gives little ones - and those who read to them! - insight into the meaning of the bible stories and biblical principles. A very nice job.

    Great for kids and adults

I've given this to all the kids in my life that are really close to me. It's a really great book that focuses on how each and every story in the Bible points to Jesus Christ and what He came to do. It was refreshing for me to read, and a great way to introduce kids to Scripture. My nephew is always asking to be read to from "the Jesus book."

    Simply Beautiful

A very special children's Bible that adults will enjoy and also enjoy. Captivating illustrations and enchanting new words for familiar old stories that are lovely to read aloud. My children pick up this one for me to read to them time and again.

    Great night time read aloud

Both my 2 and 7 year old love this book. They enjoy sitting on my lap and looking at the pictures while I read the story. My 7 year old can also read the stories with a little help.

    Just Wonderful!

I bought this book for my grandchildren after my daughter told me that our 5 year old was asking about the rainbow. My daughter received this in the mail and called me right away and told me it was 'just wonderful!' My daughter reads it to the grandchildren every night now.

    The best kids Bible

The best kids Bible I have ever come across. I have also used this Bible for part of my devotional time as well. After receiving it for my son we went out and bought 4 more copies for kids of our family and friends and one for myself on my Nook.

I absolutely LOVE this Bible!!! The pictures are so vivid and beautiful. They really enhance the whole storytelling experience for me and my son. I also love how the stories are written. The language is simple enough for a child to understand without watering anything down (which is an unfortunate issue I have with most other children's Bibles). No other children's Bible I've read has ever captured the essence of God's story quite like this. I wholeheartedly recommend this book for children and adults of ALL ages!
