This edition is a photo copy and lacks the appendices that are, in this writer's view, of as much value as main body. Hence the lower rating.
This is considered by many conservative scholars to be the definitive works of the life of Christ in the English language. Alfred Edersheim was a rabinically trained Jew who put Jesus into the cultural perspective of His day with a sensitivity that is moving. Unfortunately he is also a Pharisee basher.
Edersheim is a heavy read. The 19th century lacked MTV and Madison Avenue so the sentences are long and the thoughts run deep.
