In her new trilogy, New York Times #1 Best Selling author, Nora Roberts returns to the lush, green hills of Ireland, where love is forever touched by magic - And where the Gallagher siblings explore the depth of their fiery hearts.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Even the reigning queen of romance novels is entitled to an off book. A superior reading might have endowed this story with the needed depth, but Patricia Daniels was not equal to the task. Jude Murray is in Ireland to escape her life in Chicago and possibly find herself in the bargain; Aidan Gallagher runs his family's pub in Ardmore. He's done his running but beneath the surface is a sense of destiny unfulfilled. Then he meets Jude and understands everything. Unfortunately, Daniels's near monotonic reading makes it difficult to lose oneself in the already fanciful story. Her concentration on proper diction is negated by her giving every word in a sentence equal weight, thus rendering the sentence meaningless. Her Irish accent is better, but with that she loses her diction skills. Despite the popularity of the author, libraries would do well to pass on this one.--Jodi L. Israel, Jamaica Plain, MA Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.\
Jude Murray leaves America for Faerie Hill Cottage, Ireland, to evaluate her life and immerse herself in Irish folklore. There she discovers hope for her future in the magic of the past. Then there is Aidan Gallagher with an uncommon understanding of his country's myths. Together they create a celtic passion all their own. Terrific narration by Patricia Daniels!

Meet the Author

Nora Roberts
Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts is truly a publishing phenomenon. Today, she is one of America's leading novelists, with many #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling novels to her credit. Her books are published around the world, made into films, excerpted in national magazines and translated in over twenty-five different languages.

Biography

Not only has Nora Roberts written more bestsellers than anyone else in the world (according to Publishers Weekly), she’s also created a hybrid genre of her own: the futuristic detective romance. And that’s on top of mastering every subgenre in the romance pie: the family saga, the historical, the suspense novel. But this most prolific and versatile of authors might never have tapped into her native talent if it hadn't been for one fateful snowstorm.

As her fans well know, in 1979 a blizzard trapped Roberts at home for a week with two bored little kids and a dwindling supply of chocolate. To maintain her sanity, Roberts started scribbling a story -- a romance novel like the Harlequin paperbacks she'd recently begun reading. The resulting manuscript was rejected by Harlequin, but that didn't matter to Roberts. She was hooked on writing. Several rejected manuscripts later, her first book was accepted for publication by Silhouette.

For several years, Roberts wrote category romances for Silhouette -- short books written to the publisher's specifications for length, subject matter and style, and marketed as part of a series of similar books. Roberts has said she never found the form restrictive. "If you write in category, you write knowing there's a framework, there are reader expectations," she explained. "If this doesn't suit you, you shouldn't write it. I don't believe for one moment you can write well what you wouldn't read for pleasure."

Roberts never violated the reader's expectations, but she did show a gift for bringing something fresh to the romance formula. Her first book, Irish Thoroughbred (1981), had as its heroine a strong-willed horse groom, in contrast to the fluttering young nurses and secretaries who populated most romances at the time. But Roberts's books didn't make significant waves until 1985, when she published Playing the Odds, which introduced the MacGregor clan. It was the first bestseller of many.

Roberts soon made a name for herself as a writer of spellbinding multigenerational sagas, creating families like the Scottish MacGregors, the Irish Donovans and the Ukrainian Stanislaskis. She also began working on romantic suspense novels, in which the love story unfolds beneath a looming threat of violence or disaster. She grew so prolific that she outstripped her publishers' ability to print and market Nora Roberts books, so she created an alter ego, J.D. Robb. Under the pseudonym, she began writing romantic detective novels set in the future. By then, millions of readers had discovered what Publishers Weekly called her "immeasurable diversity and talent."

Although the style and substance of her books has grown, Roberts remains loyal to the genre that launched her career. As she says, "The romance novel at its core celebrates that rush of emotions you have when you are falling in love, and it's a lovely thing to relive those feelings through a book."

Good To Know

Roberts still lives in the same Maryland house she occupied when she first started writing -- though her carpenter husband has built on some additions. She and her husband also own Turn the Page Bookstore Café in Boonsboro, Maryland. When Roberts isn't busy writing, she likes to drop by the store, which specializes in Civil War titles as well as autographed copies of her own books.

Roberts sued fellow writer Janet Dailey in 1997, accusing her of plagiarizing numerous passages of her work over a period of years. Dailey paid a settlement and publicly apologized, blaming stress and a psychological disorder for her misconduct.

    1 of her best trilogies!!

I went on a HUGE Nora Roberts trilogy binge several years ago and recently started downsizing my collection. THIS is NOT 1 of the trilogies that is going anywhere! This and the Born In trilogy are absolutely my favorites!! Highly recommend! LOVE LOVE LOVE Nora Roberts books. Makes a girl have something to look forward to as she dreams of love and life and what lessons are to be learned along the road to both.

    Great Book

This book was captivating. I loved the story line. I can't wait to read the next in the series. I was slightly disappointed in the ending but simply because I wasn't ready for it to end. The characters are ones you really connect to and can relate to.

    more from this reviewer

Jewels Of The Sun was a Nora Roberts Book through and through

Jewels of the Sun (last book in the series) was defiantly a Nora Roberts book. Roberts' uses a fairy and a ghost from 300 years ago and ties them into the future of 3 different couples that live in today's world.

I love to read fiction books, but not where the main characters might be super-human. Instead this series is most defiantly a romance novel with the main characters being regular men and women and contains a little bit of fantasy in terms of the characters and the plot.

Words that I would describe this book as: Romance, Love, Fantasy, Light Humor

    More like 3.5 Stars

I don't read romance that often. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I usually enjoy other books more. I love the series "In Death" published under J.D. Robb, so every once in a while, I'll pick up a Nora Roberts book. I always enjoy them, I just don't usually seek them out. This was no exception. It was a really good for a romance book. I loved the Irish parts of it. Now some people I'm sure hate the Irish cliches, but in a book like this I think it's wonderful. I love the setting, the folklore, and the people. And the romance part wasn't to over the top for me. It's part of a series, but I think it works as a stand alone book as well. While the main characters in #1 are still in #2, they are no longer the focus. And I assume the same for #3.

    One of my favorites!!

I first read this book almost 10 years ago. Since then I've read the trilogy so many times I can't count anymore. I'm a huge Nora Roberts fan. I've read all her trilogies and a great deal of her single titles. This is just one of those stories I have to revisit over and over again. Definitely an excellent read!

    Lovely Story

This is the first Nora Roberts book I have read, and I was impressed. I love Irish folklore and history, and this book even though fiction, was very entertaining. The plot was easy to follow and very romantic. The scenery was beautifully described and all in all I loved the book. I plan on reading more of her work, and of course the other two in this series.
