Best newaza book on the market

Saulo has created a newaza masterpiece. This is the best comprehensive guide to newaza that I have ever seen and the biggest martial arts book I own.

For those mainly interested in nage-waza, Saulo provides a great gameplan for developing into newaza specialists from the bottom up. If that weren't enough, he does a great job of explaining all of his moves. I learned so much, not only about the basics, but how to put it all together into a full newaza system. There is broad appeal here for beginners and advanced students alike.

The only drawbacks is that this book only contains ground techniques. There are no throws or transitions from throws. The only books I have read that even touch on this area are Best Judo (transitioning to kesa-gatame) and Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu (transitioning to juji-gatame). Still, this book is so large and full of info, I am more than happy with my buy.

All grappler's owe it to themselves to pick up this book - it is incredible.

    BEST BJJ BOOK EVER....SO FAR

I ordered this book back in August and kept getting disappointed when i didn't receive it until mid November. The wait was worth it, Saulo is a phenom of a teacher, who provides plenty of theory along with great techniques. THis book is great for the beginner and the black belt as it deals with so many situations and techniques. Although I advise everyone to train under a legit Black belt instructor, this book is the companion guide to any qualtity instruction. It is also a valuable tool for the teacher as well as the student as it deals withe the theory behind the moves, as well as many pages devoted to the wrong techniques and what is wrong with them. I have too much good stuff to say, but I don't have the time or energy right now to address every point of the book. Lets just say i spent a couple nights after training drinking coffee and reading like i was pulling an all nighter for school. It is a must have for any jiu jitsu practioner/bjj nerd.

    Awesome book!

This book is massive! I knew it had a lot of pages, but I can't get over how big this book is! It is full of in-depth techniques with full page color spreads. You get to read Saulo's take on competition vs. training in the academy and how he changes his game depending on his goals. Worth every penny! A great addition to anyone's martial arts collection.

A must have book for anyone who trains jiu-jitsu

This book is probably one of the very best out there on the subject of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The book is laid out perfectly, starting with survival techniques for all the major positions and then slowly progressing through to escapes and movement to finishes. Studying this book will allow any grappler to get better, no matter where they are starting from. The best part is that along the way, there are constant demonstrations of what not to do. These are common mistakes that you want to remove from your game. Just studying those helped a lot.

Greatest Book to Improve Your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu on the Market

This is a must have for any submission grappler looking to improve their game. Saulo as well as his brother Xande are two of the best in the world, and this book shows why. In this book Saulo takes you through your stepping stones from a fresh white belt to seasoned black belt. If you are a mid to high level practitioner, this book will help you see holes you've left open in your game, so you can patch them up, and take it to a new level. All you have to do is take this knowledge, and put in the time on the mat to commit it to muscle memory.

    Jiu- Jitsu at it's finest....

This is not your ordinary Martial Arts book. This well thought out book is a must have for all Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts at all skill & interest levels. I have not seen a more comprehensive, in-depth technical manual on the market. This book covers a complete system of white to black belt. Saulo uses the belts as guidelines for what you should learn before you move to the next belt. The book covers both jiu-jitsu theory and application.Lets hope Saulo Ribeiro will continue to teach & inspire with Ji-Jitsu University Volume 2.

    Highly Anticipated - Very Satisfied!

I have blogged about BJJ for over 3 years and when "Jiu-Jitsu University" was getting ready to come out my fellow bloggers were salivating and couldn't wait to get their hands on this book. I was the same way. When it arrived I was immediately blown away by the scope and depth of the instruction. I am not kidding when I say that going through this book was like a religious experience and from the techniques I learned from this book I made many of my rolling partners have a "come to Jesus moment."

Okay, I may have gone to far with that last statement but for weeks the blogosphere was full of praise for this book. Not only does it offer technique but it provides a contextual understanding of the techniques use as well as each belt level. It also stresses defense and what's fascinating about the defense instruction is that it breaks it down into parts. For instance, if he gets past your legs then you do this, if he gets past your hips then do this, etc. The book acknowledges that you probably will not be able to stuff all attacks so here is what you can do at various stages to counter the butt whipping you are receiving.

    Excellent!
