    Always get this one

This is a usefull tool come tax time. The sections are clearly grouped and each item has examples (often multiple) and the tax tips are helpful. I also use an electronic filer, but I rely on this book to help me with the details - the electronic program asks questions, but fails to give background information, which without it, might cause me to answer incorrectly.

    Up to Date Tax Info

This is authority on tax changes for the year. I've been buying this book every year since 2000. If it relates to taxes, it's in here. Covers all subjects in easy to understand manner with examples. It's something I can use all year round, not just at tax time.

    J. K. Lasser's Your Income Tax 2009

I have found this book useful and have been purchasing it for at least
15 years. It is very complete for a small business/individual tax
form as it answers all the questions I have had in this book. It is up
to date with the latest information.

    Don't try this at home

I'm a CPA but the only income tax return I do is my own. This book is very comprehensive, but the thing is, there are just too many tax rules. This book only covers federal tax, not state and local.
So after studying this book for a couple of evenings, I decided to go to a professional. I had my tax return done by him in a day, with a tax refund I would never have achieved myself.
It's not that the book is not good: but try to balance the hours you need studying it against the cost of a professional (in my case nit more than $350). And take into account that you may be missing out if you do it yourself.

    Your Income Tax

I buy this book every year. I use a software program, but I use J.K. Lasser's book as a reference and a reminder. It has various topics such as deductions that are very helpful.
