Willard Trask has done a wonderful job in putting Joan of Arc¿s words in this book. He tells the place and date when her words were spoken. It is a great companion to ¿Joan of Arc, Her Story,¿ by Regine Pernoud and Marie-Veronique Clin. When reading Joan¿s words you feel her holiness coming through. The assertiveness in her words, whether to those who examined her at Poitiers, by the king, or her judges at her trial brings out the strength and leadership qualities she possesses. The impatience and frustration she shows with her generals and king shows her humanness that we can relate to in our own life and struggles. Joan of Arc¿s words made me feel I know her much better than just relying on what others say about her.

I found this book on bn.com when I was looking for possible sources for a research paper. Thinking it would help (which it did) I bought it. But I found that this book is also a superb fun read. Seeing how it's edited down to just Jehanne's words, you don't get flooded with info. This is great if you already know her tale. It allows you to focus on Jehanne's inspiration and is truly the only version of her side of the story. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read on Jehanne d'Arc...for fun or for research.

How many times have you heard everyone eles' version of Jehanne d'Arc? Well, not in this book. It tells what Jehanne actually said. Just facts, that's it. I recommend it greatly to everyone.
