Children's Literature
What do police officers do? What is the job of a garbage collector? Who bakes the bread that we eat? Kids love asking questions, and here is a book that answers them. Many everyday jobs that adults often take for granted are presented in this book, a part of the "English-Spanish Foundation" series. In simple sentences, written in both English and Spanish, young readers will also learn about gardeners, bus drivers, teachers, librarians, mechanics, barbers, veterinarians, doctors, postal workers, and grocers. Some sentences are not quite as strong as they could be, such as the sentence which explains that firefighters rescue animals but which ignores their primary duty of fighting fires. Still, the book does provide exposure to important vocabulary and also offers a pronunciation guide at the end for both languages. The hard, board pages will also ensure the durability of the book, even when handled by a large number of young children. This would make a good selection for reading aloud to preschool-aged children or to let beginning readers try on their own. 2002, Me+Mi Publishing, Ages 1 to 6.
