Joey was a boy born with a smile on his face and music in his heart, a boy who was to reflect all the experiences of youth: the wonder of existence, the adventure of finding new things, the joy of discovering new love, the pain of betrayed trusts and broken commitments, the endless searching for a meaning to life and its endless riddles, and the joy of finding a wonderful God who can bring all these complex facets of life into focus.
This story is about a rare and beautiful love between a young boy and God. It is a work that will give hope to the young and comfort to mothers and fathers who watch fearfully as their children enter the unknown world of life's adventure.
From the Hardcover edition.

"Joey" not only touched my heart, but he touched my soul. Joseph Girzone is sent by God to reintroduce Jesus to the modern world. He depicts Jesus as one of us, present in the current world. Joey found Jesus in the most ordinary people and in the beauty that God created. He found Jesus in friends in trouble (and he certainly knew first hand all about problems). The relationship between Joey and Jesus reminds me of the relationship my son, Frank had and still has in heaven with Jesus. Like Joey, Frank was called home to Jesus at a very young age, 36. Although Frank's life and Joey's were different, (Frank was an attorney, who found his work challenging moralistically and turned to the Lord all the time)their intimacy with Jesus mirror each other. Reading Joey's story truly amazed me. It gave me a feeling of love and comfort that only Joseph Girzone could communicate. His simple, honest writing style is so heartwarming and uplifting to any reader. I believe that his writing ministry is truly a grace and special gift from God. He is inspired to bring the love of Jesus and those who are intimate with Jesus (the Joeys and Franks of this world) to all of us. It is, I believe, God's way of bringing us closer to our creator. This book was hard to put down until the last page was turned. As a mother, who just a short three and one half months ago lost her loving son, I recommend reading this book to parents who have lost children, at whatever age. And also to parents who love children and who love Jesus. To those of us who don't know Jesus, or who don't know him well, I suggest you let Joseph Girzone introduce you!Was this review helpful?
