This is not a light read. it is serious literature for serious readers. But if you are willing to put forth some intellectual effort for an enormous return, John Brown's Body will more than reward you. It is a monumental work that more than pays back the commitment made in reading it. If, OTOH, you want a quick, easy read to rush through so you can write a book report with an impressive title and get back to your TV show or video game, don't even try it.

An incredible book that provides history through poetry. It is also a reminder of the customs of life (mostly Biblical) that originated from that time period. There was still a very English lifestyle during that time. A very passionate piece of work. -Neil

Amy, you're the dumbest kid I've ever come across. The poem is a breath-taking epic that beautifully captures a pivotal moment in American history. Remember, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it....Amy you dumb ox.

I really did not like John Brown's Body because it was long and boring and I don't like American history. I don't recommend this book to anyone.
