Library Journal - Library Journal
Until now there has never been a definitive biography of the model for Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray. Gray's later life as a convert to Catholicism and a Catholic priest is well documented. Using manuscripts and correspondence previously unavailable, McCormack lifts the cloak of secrecy in which Gray shrouded his early years and his association with Wilde's decadent society. McCormack's work, both well researched and well written, skillfully keeps the focus on Gray and avoids the pitfall of focusing on the flamboyant Wilde. The dedication and objectivity displayed here adds credibility to Wilde and his work.-- Martin J. Hudacs, Solanco High Sch., Quarryville, Pa.
