Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This book is part of the "MyReportLinks.com Book" Series that is both a book and also offers links to several Web sites, sources and photos related to the book's subject thereby saving hours of research time. Born in Massachusetts on July 11, 1767, John Quincy Adams was the second of five children. His father, the second President of the US, was active in politics and was often away from home during the early part of his son's life. He was home schooled until age 10 when he and his father went to Europe where he began formal education. He returned to America in 1785 to attend Harvard College and later became a lawyer, following in his father's footsteps. In addition, he held positions such as diplomat, Senator, and Secretary of State before becoming America's sixth president. .At age 74, he successfully argues the Amistad case before the U.S. Supreme Court. After a few strokes, John Quincy Adams died in 1848 where he had achieved a majority of his success, in the U.S. Capitol. Also included in the book are highlights of his life, chapter notes, a bibliography and index, that help provide readers with complete information for a superb report. 2002, Enslow Publishers,
— Michele Wilbur
School Library Journal
Gr 5-9-These titles compare favorably with those in the "Spirit of America: Our Presidents" series (Child's World) in scope, readability, and visual appeal, and have the advantage of the added Web sites. In Grant, Alter begins with Appomattox, and then backtracks to the president's early life. His unpopularity and undeserved reputation are mentioned several times. In Adams, Feinstein, too, takes a key event, Amistad, as the starting point, and then relates Adams's early life, political career, presidency, and final years. Several pages of annotated sites follow. The texts feature many color photographs, some from the Internet and with the toolbars (including the URL) showing. These books are thoroughly researched and strongly supported by Web sites.-Debbie Whitbeck, West Ottawa Public Schools, Holland, MI Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
