From The CriticsReviewer: Riad Barmada, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This is volume 1 of the fourth edition of book on joint replacement arthroplasties of the elbow and shoulder that covers basic science, surgical techniques, and results. A second volume is planned on the hip, knee, and ankle.
Purpose: The purpose is to present new concepts in prosthetic design and techniques.
Audience: The audience includes orthopedic surgeons and residents.
Features: The book includes access to a website with an online version of the text as well as basic science chapters that are only available online. The first of the two sections of the print book is dedicated to the elbow and addresses anatomy, biomechanics, surgical approaches, partial replacement, total replacement, and complications, all with excellent descriptions of surgical techniques accompanied by illustrations and photographs. Section II is dedicated to the shoulder and, as with the elbow section, all related anatomy, approaches, and prosthetic designs are discussed. What are very helpful are the discussions of special considerations and techniques for specific diseases and separate chapters on the pathological disorders of the elbow and shoulder.
Assessment: This is an outstanding publication, very easy to read, that provides practical and helpful information on elbow and shoulder replacement from experts.
