Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up-This slim volume is filled with useful information about the acclaimed Argentine writer. Beginning with an editor's note and introduction by Bloom, and moving on to biographical information about Borges, the book focuses on five of the author's most studied short stories: "Death and the Compass"; "Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius"; "The Immortal"; "The Aleph"; and "The South." Each chapter contains a plot summary, a list of characters, and previously published critical essays. Lists of Borges's other writings, principal translations in English, books and articles about the writer, and an index of themes and ideas are appended. The critical essays are not included in their entirety, but are extractions of longer pieces. A helpful study guide for students.-Pat Bender, The Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, PA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
