What People Are Saying

From the Publisher

"Anointed. Superb. Outstanding. Exceptional. These are just a few of the words that come to mind as I give my wholehearted endorsement to Joseph: Beyond the Coat of Many Colors. Mary Englund Murphy’s practical applications and insights into the life of Joseph and his family truly go beyond a multicolored garment. Not only did my church use this study in all of our small groups, I preached a twelve-week sermon series in conjunction with the book. You will not be disappointed as you delve into this study alone or in a group setting.”
—Jim Garlow, Pastor, Skyline Church in La Mesa, California

Joseph's story and the "character" of Joseph have long

Joseph's story and the "character" of Joseph have long been Biblical favorites. Mary Englund Murphy's study delves into the real story of Joseph's family--on the one hand, dysfunction, deception, jealous rivalry, favoritism--on the other hand, restoration, faithfulness and the blessings of a great God. The author esplores attitude, character, morality, forgiveness, success in life, and God's continual direction. Each scripture passage is explained with reference to the Biblical story as well as to our story. In the margins are key scriptures, main ideas, and motivating truths to apply to our lives and to point us to God's Word and His unfailing direction. Everyone can glean encouragement and hope for the difficult times and trials in our lives. The study inspires us to live a life in trust and obedience, aware that God knows the end of our story, too, and He directs our life journey. I found this to be a most interesting and worthwhile study. I plan to keep it as a reference and to study it again. I received this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for an honest review.

Joseph ~ Beyond the Coat of Many Colors By Mary Englund Murphy

    Joseph ~
Beyond the Coat of Many Colors
    By Mary Englund Murphy

Joseph Beyond the Coat of Many Colors is more than just a study of Joseph and his life.  Starting with Abraham we are taken on a journey that brings us up to Joseph.  Joseph and his brothers are directly affected by how Abraham, Issac, and Jacob manipulated to get what they wanted.

We study Joseph and his brothers and we relate them to our daily life.  Just as God didn't give up on on Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and his sons - He doesn't give up on us.  We can use Joseph as an example of how to live a life that honors God because he exemplified Christ's life through his own.

God sees beyond the outward aspects He sees beneath the mask.  He knows our heart and He sees our true character.  And we can use Joseph Beyond the Coat of Many Colors to help us grow and become whom He desires us to be.

Often we see Joseph portrayed as someone bigger than life, but felt fear and betrayal.  He was tempted and was punished for overcoming it.  Through Joseph Beyond the Coat of Many Colors we can experience this and take strength from this in our own lives.

I liked the activities in each lesson and the scripture readings from throughout the Bible - Old and New Testament.  Each week is broken into 5 days and there are a total of 8 weeks.  This study would work as either an individual study or a family/group study.

I was provided a copy of this book by BookFun (dot) org and the author/publisher in exchange for my honest review.

    About the Book:

Joseph: Beyond the Coat of Many Colors is an interactive Bible study in the familiar Following God format that offers hope, encouragement, and practical answers to life's problems. As one of Jacob's twelve sons, Joseph is a blueprint for understanding blended families with broken and betrayed relationships. The study also serves as a leadership manual for churches and businesses; a handbook for employees and employers; a guidebook for resisting negative peer pressure and instituting moral purity, grace and forgiveness. Literally, it has something for everyone.

    About the Author:

Mary Englund Murphy speaks at retreats, banquets, and special events. She is the author of the book Winning the Battle of the Bulge: It's Not Just about the Weight, endorsed by Dr. Kevin Lehman. My Review:

Like many characters out of the Bible these people were used as examples for how we should or should not live our lives. Joseph is a good example of this because he had so many things happen for him and to him, and out of those things much can be learned. But Joseph's ancestry plays a big role in how he lived and how he was raised and we can see that if we start at the beginning from Abraham on up to his father Jacob. If we remember correctly Issac, was the son of Abraham that Abraham was suppose to sacrifice but was stopped by an angel, he is Joseph's grandfather. So between all the things that happened with Abraham and on down the family line there is no doubt that God has His hand on this family from the very beginning.

Joseph, Beyond the Coat of Many Colors, is an excellent Bible study urging you to learn more about Joseph and forcing you to dig deeper to see true character and reverence to God. A reverence and respect that lasted generations to show us in these ends times how no matter what the costs if we just have faith in Him we can move mountains. The author takes you through day by day and shows you things about this mans life that were set in motion long before he was even born. Prophecies being fulfilled and prayers being answered.

She gives you background information and foot notes to refer back to, to further explain things about the different things mentioned in scripture. I really enjoyed the different translations and meanings of words from the Hebrew language. There are also many questions to answer or ponder as you read through the study that help with understanding the material. This is an eight week long study, that is very simple and easy to follow. I really enjoyed learning more about this man of God.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Bookfun.

Joseph Beyond the Coat of Many Colors is a fabulous bible study.

Joseph Beyond the Coat of Many Colors is a fabulous bible study. It would work great as a group or individual study. Presented in eight weeks with study material five days each week, this study delves intensely into the life of Joseph. It also provides areas for the reader to ponder and apply the lesson in their own lives. I especially loved the Doctrine, Word study and Put Yourself in Their Shoes sections. The Doctrine provides scriptural references while the Word study enlightens the meanings behind words used throughout the scriptures. Finally, the Put Yourself In Their Shoes section allows the reader to think and use the material in their own life. There are personal questions that take the history of Joseph out of a storytelling format and into current, real life principles. At the end of each week’s study material is a prayer to help apply what has been taught throughout that week’s homework. This study is substantial for the schooled believer, but not overwhelming to a new believer. Whether new to Christianity or a seasoned believer, this book will enhance and edify the reader to new levels. I would absolutely recommend this book. I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
