Overview

Josey Wales was the most wanted man in Texas. His wife and child had been lost to pre-civil War destruction and, like Jesse James and other young farmers, he joined the guerrilla soldiers of Missouri—men with no cause but survival and no purpose but revenge.

Josey Wales and his Cherokee friend, Lone Watie, set out for the West through the dangerous Camanchero territory. Hiding by day, traveling by night, they are joined by an Indian woman named Little Moonlight, and rescue an old woman and her granddaughter from their besieged wagon. The five of them travel toward Texas and win through brash and honest violence, a chance for a new way of life.

Two classic westerns in one paperback--The Outlaw Josey Wales and Gone to Texas--the basis of Clint Eastwood's movie The Outlaw Josey Wales. By the author of The Education of Little Tree.

THUMBS UP FOR THE REBEL OUTLAW JOSEY WALES!!!

The author has a excellent knowledge of The Civil War, land, horses, southern language, and Indians. 'Gone To Texas' was made into a movie by Clint Eastwood, but the book gives a more detailed account. The second novel 'The Vengence Trail of Josey' was almost made into a movie by Eastwood, but plans fell through on the project. If you are a fan of the Civil War, Jesse James, or just like good old westerns--this is the book for you!

Highly recommend . I really enjoyed this read.

If you like a good western, you'll really enjoy these two books. I've read these books two or three times and enjoyed them every time. Forrest Carter knows how to. Write a book. The movies are great.

    Great Fun

I have always been a fan of the Clint Eastwood movie The Outlaw Josey Wales. When I recently saw that the movie was actually based on a book, I immediately went out and bought it.
The movie has some of the most quotable lines of any movie I have every seen and I have been delghted to find these lines in the book.
It has been great fun to read and I have thourghly enjoyed it.

Two of the best westerns ever written

My great great grandfather Patrick fought on the union side at the Battle of Lexington, Missouri in 1861 as a private in the Johnson County Regiment E.M.M. The border war between Kansas Jayhawkers and Missouri Bushwhackers was a bloody guerilla war that pitted brother against brother. A very good story of a terrible time. The Outlaw Josey Wales does a great job telling that story, and the Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales depicts border unrest between Mexico and Texas in the late 1860s. Also very good.
