Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This title says it all--Joshua counts. The first cartoon illustration shows Joshua alone--one boy. In turn we add his fish, his mother, her cat, his father, his dog, and so on until we have ten people and pets in the frame. The surprise is that Grandfather's pet is a dinosaur. Cheery bright colors are very appealing to preschoolers, and the digits are shown on each spread with the current one highlighted. When the frame is too crowded, we move to another story, which begins with a small drawing of Joshua, and tells us that he has a wonderful secret. He does not have to round up everyone to count to ten; he can use his fingers and count to ten anytime he feels like it. You can count on this book to help little ones learn, as it is part of Frankel's "Once Upon a Potty" series. 2000 (orig. 1983), HarperFestival/HarperCollins,
