Library Journal - Library JournalWith these two titles, the publisher has launched a promising new series on spiritual practices. Chilson, a Paulist Father based in Portland, OR, has written a very engaging and far-reaching little book on meditative practice deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions but keenly aware of other methods and approaches. It is carefully enough crafted to be useful to believers of almost any persuasion. Koch, an adjunct professor of religion in the graduate school of St. Mary's University, offers an equally useful and affecting treatment of the spiritual benefits of beginning and keeping a journal. His text is full of practical counsel and includes pointers to web sites and a list of additional books readers might wish to consult. The series will be augmented this fall with titles on pilgrimage and fasting. Highly recommended. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
