Kohn does not make his case at all with this poorly written screed, and in fact, succeeds in showing nothing but his own neocon agenda. What he fails to grasp is that facts are simply facts sometimes and have no inherent political bias. If the war is a complete mess, which it of course is, pronouncing it so is not a partisan judgement. As is the case, in varying degrees, with all the incidents he tediously, labourously cites. Save your money and avoid this poorly written, poisonous and partisan screed at all costs.

Here¿s a painful book for a New York Times regular to read. Though you may realize the paper has drifted from its original objective news-reporting, and can readily identify the paper¿s news columns¿ repeated editorial prejudice, Kohn¿s detailed examination is concise and devastating. The author makes it clear his argument is with the paper¿s news-reporting, not its editorial-page stance. Repeated proof of failure (in this case, failure by the Times to preserve its objective reportorial mission) is overwhelming here. The criticism (below, ¿Reviewer, Reviewer¿) is unwarranted; the author states his mission succinctly. Those yearning for the good old days of unfiltered news will be bitterly disappointed by this book¿s conclusions. But its lesson is important: you owe it to yourself to put aside name-calling partisanship and continually seek to discover ¿all the news¿ for yourself. Can you handle the truth? Then first, read Kohn¿s book.

This book will prove to be the seminal work on media bias in America.Mr.Kohn adroitly manages to be both erudite and eminently readable. His crytal clear, reasoned approach to how the NYT slants the news is quite a departure from the screeds we have come to expect from both the left and the right. A must read for people who read!

This is the most well-explained book I have read on the subject of media bias, carefully and logically explaining each method of bias and providing examples in each case. It is the kind of rational exploration I have been craving on this subject, perhaps because the author, like most of us, does not come from deep within a political world defined by blind partisanship. This book will make reading the newspaper a more intelligent experience. The author clearly shows how effectively a newspaper can slant a news story while giving the very misleading appearance that it is just reporting the facts. Anyone who dismisses this book as political is missing the point. It shows how the media can slant ostensible news in ANY direction. The fact that the current NYT (significant because of its great influence and historical reputation) may have been shown to slant left (at a time it has an editor who has made no secret of leftward views) is not the point, the principle itself is apolitical. Thus, this book offers great value to liberals, moderates, conservatives and everyone else. I highly recommend reading it with an open mind.

In his zeal to convince the reader that the New York Times is liberally biased, Bob Kohn quibbles about them not mentioning 'the Bush administration' often enough in articles regarding successful military missions in the so-called war on terror. Being the bitter, right-wing crybaby he is, he then fabricates exxagerated, sarcastic alternate versions of the articles to 'demonstrate' how the New York Times would supposedly laude and credit Al Gore for the same successes if he were holding his true position as President. In the meantime Kohn ignores 8+ years of fabricated Clinton 'scandals' that the New York Times largely helped to propogate and/or start--mainly Whitewater, which came about in the first place because of shoddy reporting on the Times' part. I guess when it comes to 'Journalistic Fraud', it really does take one to know one. What's next-- a book entitled 'Arabs Are Too Mean to Israel', by Osama Bin Laden?

Inlike the initial review of this book on this site, Mr Kohn does not attack personalties and resort to emotional rhetoric, he simply lays out the facts . Mr Kohn, clearly someone who loves the NY Times newspaper, writes a very interesting and engrossing expose of exactly how the Times purposefully distorts the news. Mr Kohn provides a reasoned argument that the Times has lost its way and seems incapable of reporting the news without inserting its editorial opnion. Throughout the book, Mr Kohn sites numerous, real examples from the Times, and demonstrates the methods employed by the various writers to insert opinion or innuendo disguised as fact. Though the information and examples could have been dry, Mr Kohn's writing style is lively, informative and interesting. The temperment of this book is even handed, not the shrill tone of some other books purporting to expose wrong doing in other public institutions. Mr Kohn also suggests ways for the the NY Times to improve, get back to reporting real news, and continue as an important institution. I highly recommend this book. It is useful for not only tracking the distortions of the news by the NY Times, but can be applied, with equal effectiveness, to network news, CNN, Fox, et al Buy this book, it's outstanding.

I mistakenly assumed that someone who would take the time to write a review about a book, had actually read the book. 'A Reviewer, A Reviewer' has proven me wrong. It is instructive to note that he/she omits their own name from their slasher review. The author, Mr. Kohn, has done a remarkable job of documenting the pattern the NY Times has employed in slanting the 'news' over the past few years. Read with an objective eye, one will never again read the NY Times, or any news source, the same way again. Thank you Mr. Kohn for a thoughtful and intellegent piece of work.
