Overview

Lo Debar is a physical place that existed in ancient times. It is a place where retired priests went to live. It was a place where ex-cons released from prison went to live. It was a place of hiding, a place of solitude, and a place of secrets. People who lived in Lo Debar lived there because they wanted to be forgotten.

This book was written after much thought and meditation on what it means to live in the place where the forgotten live. One day, I read the story of a young prince, who was dropped, became lame in both feet, and then went to live in that place called Lo Debar. When I read the story, I thought how sad it was to live as a prince, broken, suddenly in abstract poverty, and alone. I imagined what it was to be in a place where you feel you do not belong but cannot speak of those thoughts to anyone. And although Lo Debar was a physical place for him, it was an emotional place for me.

Lo debar is a state of mind, not a state of being. Each of us has control over our own destiny and state of mind. When I was younger, I did as my parents did. Now that I have become a woman, I understand that I am no longer tied to the words that once defined my world. Now, I have complete control over my being, and writing this has been the unveiling of the person I know I was intended to be from the foundations of creation. I am no longer held hostage by my own emotional disabilities and abnormalities. I discovered life outside of Lo debar, and I knew I could never return to the place where the broken live.

This text is suggestive rather than explanatory in nature. It does not answer the questions of why physical, emotional, or physiological abuse happens, but rather it gives a stimulating adventure of survival and determination for one woman. Join me as we venture from the place where the broken people live.

Meet the Author

Darlene has been writing all of her life. She never considered herself an “author” just a person who enjoys writing and expressing her thoughts with pen and paper. Once while engaging in her own personal devotional time she began to see herself and the hundreds of people she has counseled over the years in the stories written within the pages of the Bible and wondered how she could use these stories to overcome her own issues of abuse and self-doubt. When she began to write she was also on her own personal journey of healing and deliverance from a place of perpetual pain within her own life. This book was birth from her own personal devotional time and it’s her desire that you receive the same level of healing she received while writing while you read.

Darlene has been counseling for well over twenty years. She began her counseling career at a non-profit group called Project Turn-Around. This program served to educate young people about a variety of topics including: etiquette, STD prevention, peer pressure, and suicide prevention. The program also provided assistance to run-a-ways and victims of violence and abuse. Realizing her passion for helping youth, Darlene continued along this career path providing counseling to at-risk youth at a foundation called HOPE and Youth Build. As Darlene became immersed in their lives, she saw the needs of many youth which lead her to develop programs to meet their needs, including programs to assist women who were transitioning from the welfare system into the workforce.

Darlene’s love for Jesus Christ fuels her desire to help others. She has served as Youth Pastor at God is Love Church in Plant City, Florida. In this position, she used biblical insight to share with hundreds of young people how to overcome obstacles. Presently she serves as a Lay Counselor at Summit Counseling Center in Chesapeake, Virginia where she counsels youth and families.

A mother of four, Darlene’s heart to assist people in making more excellent decisions has left an indelible mark in the lives of everyone she has touched. In sharing her beliefs, Darlene explains that “people do not want a handout but an opportunity to improve their lives and the lives of their families. This goal is only attainable through education, training, and discipline.”
