Overview

Alone in a $45 dollar-a-week flop house, Bob Amato must now face his most ardent adversary - himself. He will be forced to strip himself of every emotion. He will question each and every value he's ever held dear. He will even question his very existence. Within this tattered and shabby room, this self-imposed prison, he will be challenged, time and again. His only link to the outside world, an old rotary phone. His only solace are the memories of his youth. His only diversion an open window overlooking a decaying neighborhood, struggling to survive. All the while, a nagging premonition persists that he's not alone. That someone or something is watching him. The room is hot and muggy, and yet he feels a cold draft gently caressing his face. The phone suddenly rings. The line is open; there's someone on the other end . . . then silence. In the final chapters, as a thunderstorm rages on, Bob Amato will face the ultimate challenge. Suspended between life and death, he will be given three choices. However, within each choice, there lies a paradox that only he can solve. Will he survive? And if he does, what must he give in return . . . what would you?

Bob really has a wonderful quick read here. He successfully captures the essence of the journey in life we all take. The anecdotes he shared were wonderfully identifiable. Bob crafts a tale that carries us along the path of his life sharing the twists and turns we experience along the way. It is quite a ride and again, quite a read! I look forward to reading the next Robert Amoroso 'tale'.

There wasn't one time when this book didn't have my full attention. There is so much drama and mystery that I never wanted to set it down. Usually with books my attention will be short but with this one I could keep on reading and never get bored. What kept me reading was the reality of the plot. I'm not a religious person but this book almost makes me want to be. Everything is so real. This book touch my soul.

Mr. Amoroso's first novel reads smoothly, with vivid characterization and impressive sensitivity to feelings and emotions. As a recent 'midlife crisis' survivor, so many of the protagonist's circumstances and emotions strike eerily close to home. No one approaching nor those who've survived it should miss this tome! Only drawback: it leaves you wanting more. Can't wait for the next Amoroso title!

Bob didn't plan on being unpredictable. It just happened one day when he looked in the mirror and realized he had no control over his life and that time was running out. How many of us have felt this way? I know I have and it's scary! Mr. Amoroso's book touches your heart from beginning to end. It's a gripping tale of human turmoil; fraught with suspense. It's the kind of book you want to read twice. Buy it - you won't be sorry.

After reading this book I was deeply moved. His struggle is so human, so tender...I could relate to every word, every page...honestly. It is worth every page, every lesson, as harsh as they may be. I mostly enjoyed the book because of the honest quality of Amoroso's characters. It speaks to the inner child in you, the being who needs to be heard. Wonderfully scary, violently tragic, and scary as hell!

What you'll be getting your hands on when you buy Robert Amaroso's book, 'Journey,' is nothing less than one man's heroic journey into the depths of his own soul. And, from his own soul he speaks to ours as well. His journey's not all that pretty! but, then, whose soul is without its bumps and scrapes? What it is, though, is human -- warts and all! Encapsulated from the rest of the world though his own self-imposed isolation, his room -- this hovel that he chooses to live in -- becomes a symbol, becomes the microcosm of his entire life up to that point. Nothing in this room works right, just as nothing in his life is working right: There are windows that resist opening, rusty pipes that squirt out coppery water, the telephone that keeps ringing, with no one on the other end. Add to that, a blustery thunder and lightning storm that, psychologically, forces him more into himself. And, what about that blur of movement to his side, and just outside his field of vision? You'll keep reading. I know you will. And, I promise you an ending worthy of inclusion in the Twilight Zone. Good job, Mr. Amaroso...'

A second chance at life ¿ how many of us are fortunate enough to get one? JOURNEY is an intimate look into the life and mind of main character, Bob Amato, as he seeks to rebound from a self imposed purgatory of despair. This enjoyable read is cleverly crafted with a richly textured narrative that easily builds empathy between the reader and the characters. Especially moving are the scenes depicting Amato¿s relationship with his family and the influence they exert on his life. Bob Amato is endearing. Despite his flaws, I wanted him to win, and ultimately I admired the courage of his final choice. Robert Amoroso¿s, JOURNEY ¿ a message about life and family that speaks to us all.
