Editorial Reviews

Kay Weisman
This reissue of Levitin's 1970 novel tells the story of a courageous Jewish family that flees Hitler's Germany in 1938. After Papa books passage to America, Mama and her three daughters travel to Switzerland for a "vacation." There, for 10 long months, they exist on practically nothing (as tourists, they can neither take money out of Germany nor obtain Swiss work permits) and wait for Papa to be able to send for them. Levitin's fine prose has not dated in the years since the book's first appearance. Libraries that need a new copy or that may have missed the original will want to purchase this. Two sequels, "Silver Days" and "Annie's Promise", are also available.
