Overview

In Journey to Ixtlan, Carlos Castaneda introduces readers to this new approach for the first time and explores, as he comes to experience it himself, his own final voyage into the teachings of don Juan, sharing with us what it is like to truly “stop the world” and perceive reality on his own terms.

Originally drawn to Yaqui Indian spiritual leader don Juan Matus for his knowledge of mind-altering plants, bestselling author Carlos Castaneda immersed himself in the sorcerer’s magical world entirely. Ten years after his first encounter with the shaman, Castaneda examines his field notes and comes to understand what don Juan knew all along—that these plants are merely a means to understanding the alternative realities that one cannot fully embrace on one’s own.

this book has shown me that there is no time to waste. I selfimportance is the bane of the human existance. It changed my life forever, and i have read all of carlos castanedas other books as well. If there only one book you will ever read make it one of his.

This book was given to me in 1992 and changed my view of my life in the most incredible ways. The knowledge of the world of 'SORCERERS' is abstract and amazing! It is difficult to extract concrete lessons from Castaneda's words as they don't really teach anything rather than relate imaginatively facinating incidents, BUT whether this work is read as a 'story' or as a 'learners manual' it will begin a process of change in the reader. It is a wonderful thing to read this book. As an individual that is definitely skeptical and more attuned to hard science I found it difficult to grasp these ideas as factual at first, however, some ten to twelve years later, I find myself as an apprentice to a Nagual person. Whether it is believed or not doesn't really matter-if it resonates, you will do the work whether you are conscious of it or not- GREAT STUFF!!

There are so many poignant lessons in this book I don¿t know where to begin! The magic is so wonderful, but for anyone, just stop for a second and consider the deeper meanings behind these lessons Don Juan is teaching Carlos. In Zen they say we really don¿t know what anything is. This book is in complete agreement with the mysteries of this world and this life presented in many spiritual and religious traditions. In here are some ways of living life to its fullest in every moment (As stated in ¿Death as an Advisor¿), without doubt and regret. So powerful! I¿ll be reading it again and again!

I just couldn't get into it. I normally like these kind of books but this one was the exception and now I want to give up reading. It does have some good points to it but they're too hard to get to between the friction between Carlos and don Juan. It's just long and mundane.

Monkeys literally flew out of my butt. What a mind bending work. There is a thread that flows throughout the books of Castaneda. That thread winds through 20 years and begins in A Seperate Reality and concludes most poignantly in Active Side of Infinity. Ladies and gentleman, Carlos Castaneda, brilliant fraud in a world of the mundane or hapless sorcerer in a world of mystery. Take it as you will.
