Overview

The exciting, inspirational memoir of a woman and her 13 year old daughter who embarked on a year long painting trip around the world. Traveling alone, on a limited budget, they faced their fears and discover their strengths all the while having an incredible adventure. It is the personal journey of both Mother and daughter, as well as a cultural journey of the women they met around the world and it is the proverbial hero's journey. Quoting Joseph Campbell, ␣␣whether small or great, and no matter what the stage or grade of life, the call rings up the curtain, always, on a mystery of transfiguration - a rite or moment of spiritual passage, which, when complete, amounts to a dying and a birth. The familiar life horizon has been outgrown;; the old concepts, ideals and emotional patterns no longer fit;; the time for the passing of the threshold is at hand.

Editorial Reviews

Dr Peter Weiss
We're all on our own individual adventure through life, and it's often confusing. We don't come with owner's manuals. Many people get confused - confused and afraid - and stuck living a life that they know is not right for them yet afraid to do something different. That was Judy Edwards until she had a vision to travel the world on a voyage of self-discovery, knew that she had to do so, and then went and did it!
Lou Belcher
In the book, Edwards paints a vivid picture of their experiences. I felt as if I were traveling with them. When they were wet and cold, I got a chill. When they were walking stoically through dangerous areas, I was nervous as well. Edwards has done an excellent job of telling the story of their travels for the readers to experience.

If you enjoy books about the adventures travel can offer, this is a book that will be well worth the time. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a remarkable Journey, February 12, 2011
By Lou Belcher (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Journeys (Paperback)
Journeys is the remarkable true story of Judy Edwards and her daughter Jill. They courageously left home, husband and sister, Mae, and embarked on an adventure of a lifetime.

Edwards set out to paint the scenery of the world and to experience as much of other cultures as she could. Jill wanted desperately to see Egypt. They both got their wishes, but much, much more than they ever imagined. The trip was not all fun. Traveling on a tight budget offered many challenges in finding suitable places to stay, but what they learned and experienced by living with the people of the places they visited was much more valuable I'm sure.

Enjoy.

Just finished reading Judy Edwards' JOURNEY'S as I traveled through Florida enjoying the sun, the beaches and the ocean. Was thrilled to be away from the snow and ice of NH where I live. I could totally identify with Judy who was on her journey in search of the sun. I too love the sun and warm weather. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I felt I was right along for the trip. I laughed, I cried and felt I was there with Judy and Jill, Judy's 13 year old daughter. Judy's descriptions of looking for the perfect scene to paint, finding it and actually painting it were a real treat. I too love to travel but have never been to the places Judy and Jill visited. I learned so much about those places and the people that live there. Judy's descriptions, both of the places they visited and the people they met were so real. They did meet many interesting, unique individuals and they also met some real characters. The book takes you full circle, Judy needing and wanting to go on her year long trip around the world, Judy going on her trip and finally, Judy returning home and making and finding peace with herself and her family. She made her own personal journey discovering she was capable, strong and talented all along. She found herself! I felt I could identify with Judy as a mother, daughter, wife and artist. I want to thank Judy for sharing her story and for inspiring others to follow their dreams.
