Overview

When the farm is a lifestyle, not just a way to earn a living, that’s hobby farming. Most of us want to live a sustainable life in which we protect the land and keep it safe from development and overproduction. But we can take this a step further by learning how to grow and savor what we can produce ourselves—while still maintaining an alternative career to fund this passion. Michael and Audrey Levatino here share how to:

     • Grow your own food.
     • Raise chickens, horses, llamas, bees, and more.
     • Practice being (a little) off the grid.
     • Sell the bounty in your local community.
     • Balance a professional career with a rural lifestyle.

The Joy of Hobby Farming is a book that will excite armchair farmers and inspire any do-it-yourselfer.

What's so great about this book, besides the reasonable price for so much info and color, is the step-by-step color photos that show many farm tasks that no one ever illustrates. For instance, I've never seen in any book a demo of attaching a farm implement to a tractor. NO other book shows how to trim a donkey's hooves. Also, it provides a point-of-view and isn't just a dry, how-to book. It truly makes you feel like you can go out and farm. Anyone can do it. So read this book and get started.

Beautiful pictures and a good personal experience stories. This is not a how to manual. It is simply an example of one couples experience.

I did learn somethings that I did not know before, however its a little too political for me. I want more info without the opinions. If you enjoy that you will enjoy this book. I'm glad they did write the book though.
