Book's recipes a berry delight
We're in the peak of the California strawberry season, a logical time to try "The Joy of Strawberries," the latest cookbook from veteran food writer Theresa Millang of Kearney, Neb.
And the local berry season is yet to come.
Like her previous books in "The Joy of ..." series, "Strawberries" is packed with recipes and information. Recipe titles are listed beneath each chapter title in the table of contents. If you expect an index or photographs, you'll be disappointed.
What you will get are more than 200 recipes using fresh, frozen, canned or dried strawberries. Most of the recipes in the wire-bound book are suitable for beginning cooks.
Diverse offerings include Spring Rolls With Strawberry Dipping Sauce, filled Linzer cookies, a nonalcoholic colada, Peanut Butter n' Strawberry Jelly Muffins, plenty of cakes, Chocolate Strawberry Cheesecake, numerous cobblers, Straw' berry Cream Puffs, various ice creams, Strawberry Salsa, 23 pies, jams, Asparagus-Strawberry Chicken Salad, syrup for French Toast, several shortcakes and Mascarpone Tart With Freah Strawberries.
