Editorial Reviews

Mara Sapon-Shevin
"Immediately accessible and usable in any classroom, this incredible compendium of teaching strategies is proof that good teaching benefits all students and that we don't need to isolate students with different learning styles or challenges. Udvari-Solner and Kluthhave made a wonderful contribution to better teaching for all children. "
J. Michael Peterson
"Finally, a book that describes practical strategies for differentiated, multilevel instruction that includes the full range of children who exist in today's classrooms. Creates inclusive, democratic communities of learners where students with wide ranges of abilities—from those considered gifted to those with severe cognitive disabilities—may learn together at their own level. A very important and practical text that will be appreciated by teachers, administrators, and parents alike. "
The Bookwatch
“Here is a blend of classroom theory with applied facts, using classroom-tested examples and clear guidelines to help teachers create and assess the results of an active, collaborative learning environment.”

Meet the Author

Dr. Alice Udvari-Solner is a national consultant in education and holds an appointment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. The graduate and undergraduate courses she teaches on the topic of accommodating diverse learners in general education settings are integral to the elementary, secondary, and special education teacher certification programs. Differentiation, the design of effective curricular adaptations, collaborative team work among educators and paraprofessionals, and systems change toward inclusive education are areas that are central to her research and teaching. Dr. Udvari-Solner recent research has focused on the development of the Universal Design Process for Differentiation – a method used to promote co-planning among educators to design responsive strategies for diverse learners.

Dr. Kluth is an independent scholar and education consultant. Her professional and research interests center on supporting students with autism and significant disabilities in inclusive classrooms and differentiating instruction. She is the author of "You're Going to Love This Kid ": Educating Students with Autism in Inclusive Classrooms (2003, Brookes Publishing) and the lead editor of Access to Academics: Critical Approaches to Inclusive Curriculum, Instruction, and Policy (with Doug Biklen & Diana Straut, 2003, Erlbaum Publishing).
