Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
This is the fourth collection of DC's latest series about the Justice Society of America, a revived version of the company's first super-group, originally created in the 1940s. It features several old-timers (including the original Flash and Green Lantern), along with many new members. The result is a superteam book in the mold of Marvel's classic 1980s X-Men, with writer Johns and a variety of artists telling satisfying stories that focus as much on the relationships among team members as on their encounters with evil. Several different episodes are collected here, one of which introduces an intriguing villain called Roulette, who runs an underground gambling house where superheroes are forced to fight each other to the death with supervillains as the audience. Other stories costar Captain Marvel and Batman. In 2001, the year some of these stories were originally published, this series was voted #1 Comic Book by the readers of the Comics Buyers Guide and was also chosen Best Comic Book Series by Wizard magazine. Recommended for all collections, for teens and adult superhero fans. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
